Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, despite the weak raid game.......2007-05-29

"World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade" is a great expansion pack. The world of Outland is big and beautiful, with plenty of variety and lots to see and do. In contrast to other MMO's, it feels a lot more like a standalone game than an expansion pack; there are hundreds of new quests and items, factions, the Arena PvP system, the list goes on. And while the level cap has only extended from 60 to 70, those 10 levels are a very satisfying journey, as there are plenty of quests to keep you out of the grind.

Blizzard has clearly focused on a "back to basics" strategy with instances, too. 5-man instances abound, and they're all excellent. The intent is to spotlight hybrid classes and small-group tactics, which is a welcome change. All of the 5-man content can be relived later in "Heroic Mode", which raises the difficulty to an acceptably fun level, and provides a good challenge for experienced players to work on.

The only major failure here is the raid game. It's hard to criticize Blizzard for making the decision to spotlight the 5-man game (players were howling for it), but it came as a shock to experienced raiders that they'd have nothing to do on their scheduled raid days. The first raid you encounter, Karazhan, comes with an attunement, requires a cookie-cutter 10-man lineup, and has a serious gear check halfway through. That's no fun. Kara alone has smashed many raid groups accustomed to the more forgiving 40-man game, to say nothing of the road to Serpentshrine Cavern and The Black Temple.

The Collector's Edition is worth having, particularly if you're a fan. There's an excellent coffee table book that shows the evolution of the art & design of The Burning Crusade. I thought the DVD was a little short on content, but well-produced. It highlights many aspects of game design that players tend to overlook. The packaging is great and hey, you get a Nether Drake!

5 out of 5 stars A new way to feel your life slipping away from the comfort of your computer chair........2007-05-14

I had given up World of Warcraft a while ago, only because I spent so very many hours playing that I wan't getting much else done.

I should have know I couldn't stay away. A few weeks ago I got an email from Blizzard offering me a free ten day trial of this new expansion to their game. I ordered this collectors edition the next day.

I had gotten the collectors edition of the original game. I liked much of the items it came with, especially the in game pets. I decided to pay the extra money for the collectors edition of this expansion for the same reason. It came with a few items I like better than the original including a mouse pad that is a map of the game world instead of just a cloth map. And once you activate the expansion, all of your characters can use the new pet, no matter how high your level.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Kit.......2007-03-08

The Burning Crusade Collectors Edition is a very nice setup. The behind the scenes DVD has a lot of great info and interviews on the BC, as well as highlights from BlizzCon. And the art book is absolutely incredible. Well worth the price alone, even without the other extra stuff (mouse pad, maps, TCG cards, etc.)

5 out of 5 stars Warning : Warcrack.......2007-02-28

Only buy this game if you are independently wealthy and have no need for a job or any social life outside of the game. WoW and the expansion together create a gaming force so powerful that you will not be able to resist playing. It will vacuum out your soul and leave you an empty shell of a person, haggard and broken. You will lose your apartment, spouse, job, and friends and end up shattered and desperate, mindlessly searching for an internet cafe so you can hook up your next fix. At night, your fingers will twitch, clicking a phantom mouse as you dream of ore deposits and herbs that don't exist.

5 out of 5 stars Blizzard does Collector's Editions right!.......2007-01-31

You'd be hard-pressed to complain about the contents of this edition. I have yet to be disappointed with any Blizzard Collector's Edition. Chock-full of goodies (see details in the product description), it is more than worth the additional price.
