Product Description
MODEL- 97064 VENDOR- SONY PLAYSTATION FEATURES- PlayStation 2 Compact System- Charcoal Black Smaller, Slimmer and Network Ready PlayStation 2! While inheriting the basic functions and design philosophy of the current PlayStation 2 (SCPH-50000), the internal design architecture of the new redesigned PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system (SCPH-70000 CB) model has been completely overhauled, resulting in a slimmer and more lightweight form. Internal volume has been reduced by 75 percent, overall weight has been halved, and thickness trimmed down to 2.8 cm (thickness of current model is 7.8cm). Its size is almost as small as a hardcover book, making it easier to carry around. Equipped with an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming, the PlayStation 2 sets new standards in the fusion of design and functionality. Approximately 40 percent of North American PlayStation 2 online gamers use dial-up connections and to satisfy this base, the North American model is equipped with both Ethernet and modem ports. PlayStation at its finest!.......2007-06-08
The PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system was first released in October of 2000 - October 26, 2000 if you want to be specific. Along with its release came a slew of bad games and much negativity. I was only 13 at the time and could care less about the ins and outs of what this system is. I've owned a PlayStation since 1996 or 1997 and couldn't be more excited for the PlayStation 2.
I got mine two months after release (December 26, 2000) after walking a mile home from Target in 20-below, snowy weather. It was a long walk home; for I thought about the future of this baby. "Will it last like the PS1 did?" Six and a half years later and I still have it. Its library keeps growing and shows no signs of slowing down. Far too many titles have been claimed to be "the PS2's last great game": God of War II being the latest. I beg to differ!
I've gone from playing SSX (launch title) to Final Fantasy X to God of War, and I can tell you now that the PS2 is going to last for several more years. It's the best-selling console in the world; I believe 37 million American homes have a PS2. (That's only counting the United States!) The PS2's success reaches all around the world. By far the PS2's library is the largest and the best.
Slimmed down, too! I own a PS2 slim and it can go places where the original PS2 can't, such as below my entertainment system (a mere 1.5" above the floor). This makes life much easier knowing that my little siblings won't be walking on it. Heck, I don't think they even know it's down there!
You can't go wrong buying a PS2 slim. Not only is it smaller, but it's also a lot cheaper than the original was! $129.99 is half the price of a Wii, and you get a far better gaming library than you do on the Wii. Some families aren't ready to commit to the next-generation (now current-generation) of gaming, so I say buy yourself a PS2!
REAL BARGIN These Days.......2007-06-06
If, like me, you've been loyal to one game platform
for years and years (for me it was Nintendo) and never
owned a PlayStation - BUY IT!
The price has dropped on the PS2 to about what I payed for
a GameCube over 4 years ago!
PS2 gives you access to literalty a TON of games.
Most, now, at a very nice price.
And I find the graphics are way better on the PS2 than the Cube.
Compared to the $250-$650 price tag on the latest platforms?
If you can even find them?
A great gaming value.
It took me a while to warm up to, but it's a great machine.......2007-05-31
I actually only bought this machine two years ago, I spent a long time battling with the fact that there was no in-game surround sound, and not having as good of graphics as the Cube and Xbox -- that kept me from buying it.
I guess I had a change of heart somewhere along the way and decided to give it a try. I'm glad that I did. The library of games is almost unbelievable, the only other system with this many titles is the GameBoy, but I must say the variety of genres on this machine is unmatched by any system. When you go into the game store they have one wall almost entirely devoted to PS2 games, that's tough to argue.
The accessories could be a little more diverse, I recently purchased the Eye-toy and found it to be fun, but it would have been nice to have a Sony wireless network adapter and maybe a HDD like the original PS2 had.
With games like God of War and Killzone this machine has truly been a workhorse. If you're looking at buying it, even though there are many next-gen choices, go for it. Sony is committed to PS2 for a ten year period, so there are still many years of service you will get from this machine, and decent titles will still be coming out for it for years to come due to the installed user base of 100+ million owners.
In conclusion: This is a great machine, and it works great to play DVD's too.
Great system!.......2007-05-30
This is truly the best console on the market right now. It is relatively cheap, has a great selection of games 1000+ titles, and has very good graphics. This system was released in 2000 around the same time as the xbox both priced at $300. Now you can get thrm new for only $130. Personally I didn't like the PS2 when it was released. I heard much better things about the xbox it having a hard drive, the best graphics, and super fast loading time on games, so I decided to purchase the xbox over the PS2. That was a BIG mistake. I loved my xbox at first until it started giving me disc error and the green light kept flashing orange and like I said before I treat all my videogames with care. So I figured I must of got a faulty one so I exchanged it. Six months later my disc tray wont open and won't read discs anymore. I had to pry the disc tray open to get my game out. That day I took it back to the store, go my money back and never owning anything made by sony decided to give the PS2 a try. I am so glad I did! It is my favorite system. I have owned it for a full year now and no problems! True it does not have a hard drive and you need memory cards but it's no big deal you can get them for about $20 each. Also the graphics are in my opinion the same and on some games even better than the xbox. One bad thing though is the xbox does in fact have faster loading times, but at least with the PS2 you get quality. Another thing if you are planning on bying the PS3 I would wait untill the price drops because almost every game on the PS3 is availible for the PS2. So overall great system, great games, and awesome quality! I strongly reccomend this version over the original "fat" version becaus eit is much smaller, sleeker, and lighter. It is very nice carrying this little system instead of the hulking huge one to friends' houses as I often do.
