Amazon.com Product Description

The Samsung 226BW 22-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 22-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack.

With 16.7 million colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 206BW is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.282-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 3000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicColor to improve hue and saturation of colors. This function also adjusts mid-level colors to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. By enhancing the contrast ratio with MagicColor, fresh images with exceptional clarity spring to life, even on a darker screen.

Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 226BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future. Whatever the signal sources are, this monitor will process those signals to give you an optimal viewing experience. In addition, this monitor features a standard D-Sub 15-pin connection and a fast DVI-D connection for your high-resolution demands.

Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems (including Microsoft Vista's Premium standards) and an ultra-fast 2ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Plus, with Samsung you have Magic Technologies, such asMagicBright3 and MagicTune, right at your fingertips. MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment depending on the contents of the image you are watching, and MagicTune is Samsung's OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides a simple, convenient adjustment to the best image quality.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sooooo many myths and theories..........2007-06-08

I swear, I have never seen so many myths and theories regarding one product like I have with this monitor. First let me say they aren't totally unfounded, however some are just wrong. First "some" of these monitors do have bleeding issues like the picture in this store points out, however it is hit or miss to a certain extent...

First, let me start with the whole "S" "C" "A" panel thing. Obviously, "S" panels are the best, they are from Samsung and have the best quality control etc. If you get one of those you are set for sure.

Secondly, the "C" is the newer manufacturer to step into the field and produce these monitors and from the research I have done personally, I have found that the people reviewing these either report no or minimal "bleeding". Some people even say the quality on these monitors EXCEEDS that of the "S" panels they have compared it to! Personally, I was staring at the "S" panel on display at the Office Depot I bought this monitor from and I thought it was as good as everyone said it to be. When I bought mine and brought it home I inevitably got a "C" panel (the most common as of 6/7/07). I must say this is almost "exactly" the same quality and bleed (almost none) as the "S" I saw in the store. The bleed I've noticed is very minimal and no more than you'd see on most panels, with proper back light adjusting you can reduce the bleed when watching movies and whatnot.

Unfortunately, I cant comment too extensively on what "A" panels look like. However, I can say this, reviewers and critics alike seem to share the same sentiments regarding this panel.. Stay away. If you get it, feel free to try it if you like, but don't throw any of your packaging away and be prepared to ship it back. The good news is for people buying it as of now is that I believe this manufacturer has either slowed down production or stopped. "C" may have very well taken over "A"'s position in the market from some articles and threads I've read, but nobody can seem to confirm or deny this.

In any case, just buy this monitor it really is the best of the bunch and for the steep incline of price between 22 and 24" panels you can not go wrong here.

5 out of 5 stars Clear and wider is definately better.......2007-06-02

I was using a Samsung 19" LCD Monitor and wanted to take advantage of the wider resolutions in games today. After reading some recommendations on this model, I decided to purchase the monitor. Not only is the display much wider but the contrast ratio of 3000:1 is very good for my old eyes. A great purchase. Additionally; Amazon as usual was a breeze to order from and the item arrived as schedule.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-05-26

This monitor is huge, very bright, and has an amazing picture. Great for gaming with 2ms. I heard that the C panel was alittle worse than an S but i can't tell i difference. Alittle blacklight bleed but nothing big. Overall for the price it is a great monitor!

3 out of 5 stars reviewers keep touting about support in games but..........2007-05-25

the majority of games do not support wide screen aspect nor this odd ball resolution, and that goes for new games as well. I have three that do and most of my others are only 3 to six months old. If you think even for a minute that "having the windows logo on it" makes your games run on wide screen, forget it! That is a myth from fake customers who work for the companies who make these things. Furthur, this is a good monitor yet your lottery ticket quality of A, S or what is what makes me think of other companies to purchase from besides samsung. If you pay the same price you should get the same quality as everyone else. Mine is "A" and though is color saturated and has pretty good whites it also flutters in games when I turn or move(espceially in detailed skylines like Knights of Old II or Morrowind which do not support even non-native resolutions well and native is impossible. remember, these games --DO-- have the MS windows stamp(XP) of aproval logo, do not take to heart that widescreen will work just for that! Running a Geforce 7800 GS should be more than adequate, but it is not. Oh, and I DID use the nvidia aspect scaling feature but it doesn't improve performance, just looks.-you don't get monitor aspect corrections on this thing either!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent monitor!.......2007-05-23

I just received my two Samsung 226BW monitors for my Mac Pro. WOW! Absolutely impressive!

Upon powering up my Mac Pro, both monitors were instantly recognised and I now have an extended desktop.

I have already tested for dead or stuck pixels with TechTool Pro 4 - NONE! Woohoo! I was mainly worried about that.

The colours on these two monitors are absolutely beautiful IMHO. These monitors replaced a Viewsonic 22" 225fb CRT monitor, and once I get my Ergotron vertical stand tomorrow, I will have much more space on my wooden desk.

The only con is that the included DVI-D cables are single link and not dual link like these cables: Cables To Go 2m DVI-D M/M Dual Link Digital Video Cable. I ordered two of these from Amazon.com. If you have a Mac Pro, the video inputs on the ATI X1900XT card are dual link DVI-I connections - DVI-D cables can be used with this connection. Other than the cable issue, I have NO complaints.

Tomorrow, I am going to be receiving my ERGOTRON 33-091-200 DS100 Dual-Monitor Desk Stand, Vertical (black). RIght now, I am just running them beside each other. BTW, the stand is quite easy to remove. You just unscrew the screw at the bottom and just lift off and up from the back side of the stand.
