I recently bought the Acer PD100, and then they raised the price on that one and are offering a deal on this upgraded version. The only difference appears to be slightly better brightness and DVI inputs on this one. So based on my experience with the PD100, this is a decent 800X600 projector that will give you good brightness for DVDs and games at 480p. I bought my acer after agonizing over whether I was ready to go HD. I decided that if I buy the acer now, use it for ~2 years until the bulb burns out, then just buy whatever projector costs around this much at that time, I'll end up with a brighter and better high def projector than i can get right now for twice the cost. Then maybe I'll get a new bulb for this one and give it to my parents for christmas (or just sell it on e-bay). Brightness is very good, colors are nice once you play with the settings a little. as for fan noise, there is some but we don't actually find it distracting even next to our heads. i would say it's just a tad quieter than the xbox 360 which is sitting next to it, although the projector does make a loud beeping noise on startup and shutdown that's pretty annoying. If you haven't been spoiled by high-def yet and you're on a budget like me, this might work well for you.
