4 out of 5 stars Mostly Good.......2006-04-15

Bought two of these. One works very well and is worth the price. The other monitor would randomly go dim and then bright. No adjustment would correct the problem, so it was returned.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor.......2006-02-24

Great deal for the money. Beautiful monitor. It is extremely clear.

5 out of 5 stars 1600x1200 is the way to go.......2006-01-25

I use this monitor at work, mostly for text intensive tasks and wanted to point out a few things to fellow desk jockeys.

First off, 1600x1200 resolution is the only way to fly. You may be considering sacrificing that 1" of diagonal a buying a much cheaper 19" LCD. Consider carefully, since most 19" LCD's are only 1280x1024. The 1" difference in size is no big deal, but the resolution difference is very noticeable. For example, if you're using Windows XP, you can get MS's ClearType support for free. Clear-type causes fonts to be carefully anti-aliased. With a high-resolution 1600x1200 display, the anti-aliasing is much more effective. Fonts look beautiful, readable and very easy on the eyes.

Second, I use the portrait mode of the monitor almost exclusively and it works perfectly (ATI video driver). For page oriented work, rotating the monitor feels the most natural. The monitor comes with the Samsung's rotation software. DO NOT install it if you use WinXP. I had a variety of nasty problems related to multiple users on my machine, then uninstalled the rotate driver and everything starting working again. I just use the default rotate capabilities in my ATI video driver--no problems there.
Finally, I like the cool widescreen displays (16x9 aspect reatio), but I've tried these in portrait mode and they're actually too tall. I got tired of nodding my head up and down so much. So I'm happiest with 4:3 aspect ratio for portrait mode (page oriented) work.

To sum up, this monitor rocks and is in a different league completely from the typical 19" LCDs you see everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars extraordinary contrast and clarity.......2005-12-11

I replaced a very good Princeton 19" lcd monitor with this one (20" 204T) for the additional resolution but got an unexpected bonus in the visual range displayed. I have been used to large (20-21" crt displays - NEC) which are great for photography work but lousy on desk space... I have not viewed this 204T next to a crt but I will not be surprised if I find them comparable. Well done Samsung !

5 out of 5 stars I am so pleased with this monitor!.......2005-11-06

This hardware is awesome - I've tried it on an iMac as a second monitor in analog mode, and it works wonderfully well. its analog mode works extremely well, of course its best at 1600x1200 since that is its native resolution.

On my Mac Mini -- in DIGITAL mode -- it is awesome! it is as crisp as my iMac 17"

In Analog mode on my PC, it is also great.

One thing that makes Apple monitors awesome, is that they only have a backlight control. On most brands of DVI monitors, the other controls are meaningless. If you feel the color reproduction is not right, do the following steps, and the monitor will look great:

1 - using the 'Picture' menu, Adjust contrast to 100
2 - using the 'Color' menu, Set color tone to 'Custom'
3 - Set color controls for Red, Green & Blue to 0
4 - Set gamma to 'Mode 3'

After doing these steps, the color is just as good as the LCD on my 17" iMac

On the PC they give you a ton of junk to fill your hard drive. The most useful is the driver and the screen rotation software.

On the Mac, if you use Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) you can rotate the screen from the 'Displays' panel of the System Preferences.
