Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Supports "Big Picture" spreadsheet work & multi-tasking as well.......2007-01-05

With a net screen size of just over 12" by 19.5" this unit allows for arranging data -- at an easily readable scale -- either vertically or horizontally such that complex larger spreadsheets, or multi-spreadsheet / text reconciliation / comparison work, can be arranged and worked on very effectively. While for my purposes I do wish it were available "wider", on the order of, say, 15-16" x 19.5", never mind: this monitor makes for a major improvement in working with such data, and has been a very worthwhile expenditure.

4 out of 5 stars Never going back to a CRT or a smaller LCD.......2006-12-29

When I first got the VP2330WB it had so much screen space, I didn't know what to do with it. I quickly learned to put the taskbar on the right and to use side-by-side applications. Spreadsheets are much easier since I don't need to scroll left and right very often. Dragging and dropping between applications is tons easier since its trivial to have multiple apps visible at the same time. Where I used to print out two documents to create a merged revision, I now work with them side-by-side on screen.

I found setup to be very easy. Nothing notable. The on-screen controls didn't need any adjusting. The software install wasn't too painful, although I didn't install much.

I was pleased to see the power brick has a separate wire between the brick and the wall. A nice touch, although the brick itself is quite large and heavy.

The monitor lifts up/down, tilts up/down, and swivels left/right. The motion is smooth. It glides up and down with the right amount of friction, although I tend to leave it at the same height all the time. The footprint of the stand is fairly small, but the angle of the front feet means it takes up more desk space than I would like.

All the wires fit in nicely in the back, lying flush against the monitor from the bottom. Very nice design.

It has a built-in powered USB hub with 4 USB ports. All 4 ports are in the back in the same orientation as the other cables. I would have liked one or two front panel USB ports. I've gotten around this by attaching a 12-inch USB extender cable, and the end just sits on my desk. It works great for USB drives and other ad-hoc devices.

I'm running a few computers right now, all hooked up to this one monitor. At first I tried connecting two directly to the monitor, but found it too slow switching from the digital to analog feeds and vice versa, so I'm back to using my KVM. Probably for the best since I only want one keyboard and mouse anyway.

You can pivot the monitor, and the software will (usually) automatically switch to portrait mode. It's a nice feature, but I find I never use it. I probably would have used it back in the 15" monitor days when writing Word docs, but its not necessary with the 23" monitor.

I used to attach sticky notes to the frame of my monitor, but this one has such a small edge I can't do that anymore. Not a serious loss.

There are no speakers. I personally think this is a good thing.

I've had my VP2330WB for almost a year now, and I can't go back to my old 19" CRT monitor. I tried out the old CRT about a month ago. I couldn't deal with the curvature, my eyes started hurting after a while (even at 85hz), and I felt lots less productive, constantly looking for windows that weren't visible at the time.

The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is the price. It has come down since I bought mine, but it is still expensive.

1 out of 5 stars Short Lifespan.......2006-12-01

I purchased 2 Viewsonic LCD monitors and both lasted about a year and a half before the left side of the screens went dark. No diagnostic queries or interactions could bring them back to normal. I contacted customer support and was told that Viewsonic would do nothing. Maybe I was stupid or naive in not getting a warranty beyond the first year, but I assumed that a good product, made with good parts, from a company that desires to satisfy its customers with a good QA/QC program to ensure that quality products were being produced, could make a product that lasted longer than a year and a half. Faulty assumption. With 2 LCD monitors having the same problem, lasting about the same length of time, and on two diffeent computer systems, this strongly indicates to me a non-coincidental problem within Viewsonic. I will not buy anything from Viewsonic again. I will spend a little more, if I have to, to buy a reliable product from a reliable company.
