Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great product! It's a little blurry playing XBOX on my PC, though........2007-04-10

The TVBox 9 does exactly what it advertises: it lets you use your PC monitor (CRT or LCD) as a Television set. The resolution goes up to 1280x1024 and the picture and sound is great. It lets you switch from PC to TV with a click of a button, and has a nice Picture-in-Picture function that can be moved around the PC screen. The only problems I found with the TVBox 9 have to do with using it for video games:

1) The picture got a little blurry on the XBox.
2) The PIP function only works on PC mode (e.g. can't see PC in the PIP box while watching TV, and can't see XBox while watching TV or vice versa)
3) Picture tended to be a bit dark on XBox, even on the highest brightness.

That aside, I think it's a great product and I'm glad I bought it.

4 out of 5 stars No European PAL support on US model.......2007-03-17

Works as advertised except that the stated "PAL" support is for the South American PAL standards, not the European PAL standard. A workaround is to use a cable box and use the video input on the TVbox, the regular cable attachment will not work. It works but I lost any picture-in-picture capabilities as I now have just a single feed into the monitor.

However, given that this was significantly less expensive than the European model, I'm satisfied with the product.

4 out of 5 stars Made my LCD a Television.......2007-01-12

This product performed exactly as promised with very little set-up time. Just before Christmas I bought a Hewlett Packard Pavilion, which came with a 22" LCD monitor. Since I was going to use the computer primarily as a media center, plugged into my 37-inch LCD television, I wanted to use the 22" monitor in the bedroom as a second TV set. The TVBox 9 allows me to do just that--watch cable television while also from time to time playing a DVD.

Buyer beware: the TVBox 9 is not HD compatible. The video-in line looks slightly better than the coaxial cable, but nowhere near as good as a DVI cable plugged directly from the cable box into the monitor. Also note that the Yellow/Green/Blue composite cable attachment only works at 480i resolution. (And I couldn't get it to work in any event...:(

I'm using S-video from the DVD player to the TVBox 9 and it looks good. Switching from source to source is easy.

IMO the HD limitation makes this particular product extremely over-priced. If you can't wait, buy it. If you can, then this kind of unit with HD capability will eventually hit the market. For me, I wanted to watch TV and play a DVD from time to time, so, although it's not as high def as I would prefer, it does what I need it to do.

The unit is very sleek and looks sexy next to my LCD monitor. The up-down buttons on the remote are very sensitive, and you can inadvertently press too long.

3 out of 5 stars Lacks Technology for Digital Requirements. User Restrictions .......2006-12-20

Pros: No card needed. Easy Set-up (for average knowedge user). Multiple inputs. Little space needed. Remote Control. RC is very user friendly and well laid out. On-screen menus make numerous setting changes that may be wanted, a very simple task. PIP w/Transluscent ability - allowing you to see and click on your PC screen through the TV picture. This translucency feature is the main reason I went to this box rather than purchase a monitor with PIP installed. On-line customer service was quick to answer e-mail questions. With a little Googling, better price can be found.

Cons: Only 4 resolution settings accepted in order to use PIP function. Cannot be used with Digital input or digital monitor without analog capability. Instructions/User Manual is not friendly to anyone without some experience in setting up additional components to their computer. Made in Taiwan and instructions demonstrate this point. No Trouble Shooting section in Manual. Customer Service phone number can only be obtained after hunting through website. Sound capabilities limited to Stereo.

Other Thoughts: I was personally disappointed that after investing money in a high resolution Wide Screen LCD monitor w/digital input capabilities that TVBox 9 must be used only in Analog. Be aware that PIP functions only in 4 resolution settings of 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. A higher resolution setting will result in obtaining only a full screen TV picture if the PIP function is attempted. For those with dual inputs (Analog and Digital) to an LCD monitor (and a pc card with dual capability) the TVBox 9 is a decent setup when the best PC picture is not a must (by using Analog) OR, if you have a CRT without plans to upgrade to a digital monitor. You will have to change the input on the monitor and resolution to use Digital for the best PC picture, however. Kind of a pain, but do-able. If I had known all this beforehand (especially the resolution restrictions), I doubt I would have invested the money in TVB9 and would have waited until the next version was produced that may address the digital drawbacks and resolution limitations. Not enough dissatifaction to return, but does not meet todays improved technology and expectations to rate higher than mid-range.

5 out of 5 stars smooth stuff.......2006-11-04

This unit has more tricks than a monkey on a rope.

Received it fast, and had it in operation in less than a half an hr.

It will drive many video input-ed units, plus the audio can be directed to line in-puted speaker systems or home audio systems.

If you have a weak ant. sig, you can use it to amp the signel using video out from it to the systems

Great picture, and will config. in many ways to suit your fancy.

I love the fact that is has built with pre-thought-ed ideas to fit so many uses.

You don;t have one yet? "WOW"
