Product Description

This brilliant 19" wide-screen liquid crystal display offers plenty of space for users to open numerous windows at the same time without feeling cramped. The AL1913w is also perfect for watching DVDs (only if computer supports DVD functions), as the wide-screen brings a cinematic affect. The viewing angle has been increased to 340 degrees, together with its screen resolution of 1440 x 900, generating an exceptional wide vision for action packed digital gaming and movie watching.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2006-01-22

Excellent product:easy setup, very bright, and the 19 inch screen gives you a 16 inch wide view. Run two programs side-by-side.

4 out of 5 stars AL1913W -- a b!+CH to configure for *niX but still a Great Value!.......2005-12-31

I bought this monitor because it exactly met my specifications for use, features and price: I needed a 16:9-10 aspect ratio monitor (for better usability and occasional video), I needed one larger than 1280 vertical (1280x800-or-720 LCD panels barely exist, plus that's too low-res), I did not need digital video interfaces or low pixel refresh rates (not doing serious video or gaming) but did need excellent color and contrast (or brightness, in effect), since I spend most of my time reading text or enjoying 2-D graphics images in high color. And I didn't want to spend more than {Amazon's price??}. Voila -- here is your monitor. The nearest competitor in all feature areas that fit my requirements as just stated -- let's call it a "dull"-brand monitor out of respect for the manufacturer's anonymity--is considerably more capable but also about twice the price of this one. So if you're in this narrow group of customers that I am, this monitor is an excellent value.

Having said that, one CAVEAT for all you fellow LINUX users -- configuring Xorg.conf or XF86.conf, etc., to display 1400x900 (the native resolution of the Acer AL19193W) properly, is not a beginner's exercise, but of course it can be done if you write the modelines properly, take advantage of the latest version of your GFX card's driver (assuming your card supports this resolution at all!), and prepare yourself for possibly more than 24 hours of experimentation (as in my case, somewhere between a newb and a guru at this point).
