It also includes LightScribe technology for personalized silkscreen-quality, laser-etched CD/DVD labels created right in the drive.
This desktop is powered by the 2.2 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. Store more music, videos, and data on the roomy 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive, which offers fast transfer rates. It also comes loaded with 1 GB of RAM (which can be bumped up to a very generous 8 GB), an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 video/graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, a wide variety of connection ports on both the front and rear of the box, and a 15-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with today's most popular digital camera formats.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). The Basics

Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4200+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It outperforms the highest-performing AMD Athlon 64 4000+ single-core processor on multi-tasking benchmarks by up to 30 percent. Dual-core technology is like having two processors working together, each one taking care of different applications, so power-users actually experience greater performance when multiple applications are running. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements while simultaneously working in high-definition video and photo editing and audio mixing programs. It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Enhanced Virus Protection.
This 2.2 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Hard Drive: The extra-large 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC4200, 2 x 512 MB, 533 MHz) is a fine start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and gaming software. This desktop has a 8 GB maximum RAM capacity (8 x 1 GB), perfect for high-def video and 3-D gaming.
DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE graphics/video card with 128 MB of dedicated graphics memory. Windows Vista can also allocate up to 319 MB of total graphics memory from the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
For expansion, this desktop has two PCI slots (two available), one PCI Express x1 slot (available), one PCI Express x16 slot (available), two 5.25-inch bays (one available), and three 3.5-inch bays (two available). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:

7 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (3 in front, 4 in rear)
2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 in front, 1 in rear)
2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
1 VGA monitor port
2 headphone and 2 microphone (front and rear)
2 line-in (front and rear)
Digital coaxial audio output as well as surround sound speaker outputs (rear/side/center)
15-in-1 multi-format memory card reader, compatible with CompactFlash I/II, IBM Microdrive, Secure Digital (SD), miniSD, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Reduced Size MultiMediaCard (RS-MMC), MultiMediaCard Plus (MMC plus), MultiMediaCard Mobile (MMC mobile), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro Duo, SmartMedia, and xD Picture Card.
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi.
Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. Customer Reviews:
PavillionA6000N.......2007-06-01
Very pleased with this product. Was concerned about Vista OS but not as bad as expected. Have not had an opportunity to try all the bells and whistles but satisfied at this point. Good price from Amazon--if I ever receive the advertised rebates.
Great Without Vista.......2007-05-19
This machine is a FANTASTIC XP machine. The problem is its only ready for VISTA straight off the disk. I bought this machine because I couldn't wait another year for a new machine. Wasn't thrilled about vista (and no i don't hate microsoft) but because of the heavy system requirements it puts on the machine - i don't think this is a good machine for Vista.
Wiped the hard drive clean which took care of my "crapware" problem also. Then loaded XP sp2. I had a really hard time getting drivers for this because it takes a lot of work arounds but i did manage it. Now I love this machine. Its a great XP machine and i wish HP would just come out and support this with XP drivers.
A great buy if you have the time to load XP and are not gaming. Otherwise, Pay the extra for a better machine.
Overall, a good value for price.......2007-04-29
Bought this at Circuit City along with an HP 22" widescreen monitor (HP w2207). I have used Windows XP before, and found the Vista OS a little hard to get used to.
Positives:
1. The computer was very responsive, file access was fast, and the 1 GB of RAM seemed enough.
2. Fan was whisper quiet. I'm very sensitive to noise and can hardly notice it at all.
3. Lots of USB ports both front and back. Plus, there's a door that hides them in the front along with the audio in and firewire in.
4. I was a bit concerned about having an integrated video card, but scrolling on web pages was fairly smooth. I'm not a gamer, so I can't advise as to that. Plus, it could run my 22 widescreen monitor at 1680 x 1050--not bad for an integrated video card.
5. HP did provide a slide-lock plastic bag for documentation. That was a nice touch--thanks, HP, for spending the extra nickel.
6. Card reader on front-top of the machine was nice--I can just take my CF card right out of my camera and put it right into the PC.
7. Volume and mute controls on top of the keyboard are nice touch.
Annoyances:
1. No parallel port. Not a big deal if you've got a USB printer, but my old HP 6MP Laser printer needed an $8 adapter off of ebay.
2. This machine was LOADED with tons of crappy games and trial software. I spent hours uninstalling it all. The Mac commercials where they have PC in the fat suit is right on.
3. Much of my software was not Vista compatible (Adobe Acrobat 7, Symantec Corporate 8.2). But, Office XP still worked.
4. Keyboard and mouse are old style--not new USB ones. So, you can't plug them into your monitor, if your monitor has USB ports. Plus, the mouse is not the new light kind, but the old rolly type. Come on, spend the extra quarter, guys!
5. Case was kind of cheap and tinny. But, it is a lower-end PC.
6. Huge sticker plastered on the left side of the CPU - 3" x 8" - telling me how great my computer is. I would need to spend hours chiseling it off.
7. The DVD/CD door seemed rather cheap when it opened. I keep worrying that it is going to break whenever I open/close it.
8. HP doesn't give you an install DVD for the computer. They do parition your hard drive for you and make a 1 GB restore partition. Then, you have to make recovery DVDs in order to access it if your OS gets corrupted. Come on, HP, spend 25 cents and give me a reinstall DVD.
9. "Integrated 56K modem" -- hah! The phone modem card takes up one of the three PCI slots.
10. No 3 1/2 drive. I'm just old-fashioned, I guess.
Overall--when combined with a decent monitor, a good system at a fair price.
Great Economical PC.......2007-04-28
This PC is a great bargain with the $100 rebate, especially if you take advantage of the Amazon credit card offer to take an additional $30 off. The memory is adequate to get you started, but you can add an additional 2 gigs of memory for under $100 to make this a great PC and still economical. I've read other reviews of the on board graphics not being great, but if you are not a heavy gamer, than it is excellent for everyday use. If you are a gamer than this is a very well priced PC to build upon. For a couple hundred dollars you can add a couple gigs of memory and a new PCI Express graphics card and still be under $700 total.
The WOW is yet to be with this PC..........2007-04-28
This PC is has a graphics chip that is largely incapable of doing much of anything with Vista beyond the Areo interface. It won't play games beyond the minimum level graphics levels. It's not very good a displaying home movies or pictures either. If you get it, plan on getting a new graphics card with at least 256 on-board memory, a new power supply (to support the new graphics card) and some more memory (RAM) for the machine itself. (With Vista 1 gig of RAM is not really enough)
Another irritation: the power button is on the top of the tower. I've managed to accidentally shut the thing down in the middle of working on projects which are then lost because it shuts down before it saves anything that is open at the time.
This PC with XP would be an awesome machine but with Vista... um... black hole money pit.
If you wipe Vista away and install XP... then I'd give this PC 5 stars. With Vista... 2 stars... 1 and a half really... well maybe just one...
Personally to save what I can, I'm doing the wipe Vista route and installing XP Pro. A new copy of XP Pro costs less than a new graphics card, new power supply and more memory!
