Perfect picture.......2007-06-11

This is really the best TV you can buy in the 40" range. After tons of research online and hours spent in many stores, I can tell you that the XBR2 has the best picture quality available. I would say the XBR2 (40") has better picture quality than even similarly sized plasmas. The blacks are wonderfully dark and the colors are vibrant and accurate.

Be sure to get your settings right by going online and searching for user forums. Use these as a starting point, then adjust to your liking.

If you are considering buying this TV, do it. You won't find a better 40" anywhere (and the price here is good too).

I reviewed a lot of flat panel HD TVs before I made my decision. I finally decided on the Bravia as it got top ratings on most sites I looked at such as zdnet, consumerreports, etc. The only slight minus most sites mentioned was the price which is a tad higher than other top brands normally. However, when I saw it on Amazon for a good price ($2200) I decided to order it straight away.
I ordered it on Sunday, and already on Wednesday I got a call to arange for delivery which I set for friday. The TV arrived nice and early in the morning (I took the morning off from work fearing I might (as per most of these things) have to wait forever). Installation was a breeze. I hooked it up to the HD cable box with HDMI, plugged in the stereo to the TV outputs, the DVD player, etc, and other than a lot of sweat to work all the cables ayway behind the entertainment set, everything went really smooth.
The picture is great! After a few days I started playing with some of the display settings and fine tuned it to my likings. I think factory settings are per default a bit higher on contrast and color than I prefer as I like to have the picture a bit more 'au-naturel'. I created a custome setting from the standard with some small alterations on color balance, contrast and such, and I simply love the picture quality.
Sound quality is excellent as well, SD picture is great (an often overlooked point for HD tvs).

Of course I need to mention some negatives, even if just minor. One thing is that I can't get the remote to bring up the menu of the digital cable. The channel up/down/last all work, but the 'guide' button is I guess impossible to link with any of the codes to the Atlanta dig cable box. Oh well, I hardly ever need the sony vcr (as the cable remote works a charm on the sony), but it would have been perfect if the Sony remote would make the cable remote obsolete.

i did alot research on hdtv before i bought my xbr 2.you see i had a stoke last july and was off for 7 months so i had alot of time.i talked to sony tecs so many times checing to make sure nothing new was coming out in near future.they asurred me it was not. you see i already had sony hdtv,and sony surround for less than 4yrs.and 2yrs.on surround sound.but after 3 months researching and price-watching.i just had to have 40xbr2.so i gave my 28yearold son all sony gear.my daughters were a little upset.well enough of this. i love my xbr with builtin hd tunner,a must for us off-air antenna people.i live in small town in ILLINOIS and get channels as far south as st.louis,mo.and as far north as champaign,il.with my 29.99 wineguard 4400 hdtv antenna i have hookedup from sony uhf/vhf on back of tv, not my directvHDreceiver,it dose not come near as good as sony HD TINNER hook up.oh did i tell ya I have 2 - 29.99 wineguard antennas upstairs on a spitter,1 pointed north and the other south using RG6 cable, not outside but facing a window inside my 2-story house.it works, why,I dont know. and dont buy an exspensieve dvd player unless you can afford it,[BUY A SONY HD BLUE RAY] get you a up-convert sony dvd player and hook up SONY HDMI cable from vidio 8 hdmi input on back of tv to your hdmi out on your up-convert dvd player,if you have everything hooked up like your sony support tec's tell ya,that blue light comes on and you wont beleive how good your dubbed dvds you make come in. make ya want to tell some one.the only thing i dont like about 40xbr2 is how and where they have[angle is bad] the 3 HDMI inputs back and side tv.i told sony tecs i could live with it. I LOVE MY XBR I bought from amazon.com 01/15/07 T-BONE VIRDEN,IL.
