Product Description

Logitech's Harmony 890 remote control uses both radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR) wireless signals to deliver powerful complete control of your home-entertainment system that may be hidden behind cabinets. With a wireless range of up to 100 feet, the Harmony 890 remote sends RF commands to a wireless receiver, which then blasts infrared signals to the components. The Harmony 890 remote makes universal control for home entertainment and advanced lighting systems simple.

How does it work? Just connect your Harmony remote to your computer and the Web wizard walks you step-by-step through a simple set up. Enter in your model numbers for your components, then answer a few easy questions about how you ?Watch TV? or ?Watch a DVD.? You´ll be controlling even the most complex system without any of the hassles of elaborate programming. Easily view and select. Color display icons and 8 on-screen activity buttons make it easy Effortlessly switch between watching HDTV and listening to music, by selecting a single activity button - Just press one of the Activity buttons, such as ?Watch TV? or ?Listen to Music,? and it automatically sets

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I REALLY like this remote.......2007-06-13

I will start with the only bad I've found-it's a pain to program the av receiver and the remote each time you want to update. It's not hard but a laptop comes in handy. The good-where do I start? Push one button for almost anything, it could not be easier. I've waited a few months to post this review so I could say with certainty my opinion. If you have visitors, make sure they understand they only have to push one button (example-"watch tv") and the remote turns on all the components. Once you understand what the remote can do it is phenomenal!

5 out of 5 stars A true universal remote control.......2007-06-08

Fantastic, a true universal remote control! Customer service is excellent. Only one complaint, hold times are excessive when waiting for technical support. All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase.
One last note, if you don't understand any step in the programming process, don't hesitate to ask for help by calling the technical support line, don't try to figure it out yourself, as they can solve any issue very quickly.
Enjoy,

Rick

1 out of 5 stars It doesn't really work.......2007-06-08

As a lot of different "nice" devices where the hardware is ok but the software simply sucks, I was thinking this would be just one more of them.
The software hangs very often and I needed to restarted it several times and reconnet the RC to the PC several times and went through different unpleasent situations like having your RC hang just saying "go to the web site for update" or "configuration corrupted" until it finally got configured. I was almost concluding this is just one more nice hardware with a poor software and then I found out that the one the buttons (the right direction one) just doesn't work for any of my devices (TV, DVD and Xbox).

I'm returning it and will give it a second shot - perhaps I was just unlucky and a new device will be ok. I really doubt it since I don't believe the software will work any better with a new device. So this would fix only the hardware problem, if so...

My recommendation is: Don't buy it. You can't trust it will really work.

3 out of 5 stars It works, not anything amazing though.......2007-06-08

It's great that Logitech put up a database online. Everything I needed was right there, but I think you should be able to download what you need and then work from your computer instead of a logitech server. I have to kill my router firewall every time I reconfigure. The remote does generally work perfectly. Its definitely nicer than the IR PDA program I was using before.

5 out of 5 stars So far I love it.......2007-06-05

I've had this about a week now, and I'm loving it. The software is a little clunky, but the remote and the wireless portion are working great. Setting up actions is easier than I thought. I have a complex home theater system, where the receiver has one setting, the TV another, and it's a lot to rememeber with a lot of remotes. No more! Just click on the proper activity and it all gets turned on and set correctly.

The wireless portion came with 4 wire sets, with two IR led's each, so you can control up to 8 devices wirelessly with it. With four sets of wires, I can reach all my equipment with no problems. A lot of it is behind glass doors where regular remotes won't reach, which is why I wanted this, as we kept the glass door open all the time because of it.

The software could use a few updates - the initial setup failed because of my Internet connection, and there was no back buttons until I finished the initial setup. Once that was finished, I was able to use the software to complete the parts that had failed (again the failure was my Internet connection; not their fault). Also I found the software always wants to be talking over the Internet at all times. The other problem is is constantly wants to update both the remote, and the wireless portion. It's kind of a pain to remove the wireless portion every time I do an update to the remote. Besides those two issues, it is easy to understand and setup the activities.

The charger works easily, no problems (unlike others who said they had trouble with the connections). It works awesome, and I recommend it.
