Vista.......2007-05-27
If you have Windows Vista, I just thought I'd let you know this game MAY not work on your computer.
I only say this bc my husband bought the game yesterday and was very excited about it, until he tried to play it. It just won't let him.
The company says the game is not really for "windows" and they are not going to make any patches or upgrades in regards to Vista. They do have some idea of how some users were able to make it play on Vista but it's not a guarentee.
:) Just thought I'd send out a warning
(PS. You can check the official site forums, in both the tech support categories under "Oblivion" and "Shivering Isles" for more info.)
Top notch game , the DOOM of today!.......2007-05-24
I love it! Days and Days of play and then there are expansion sets. My son and I both enjoy this one, but be careful it can really put a dent in your sleep!
You will get your money's worth.......2007-05-08
This is a great game. But consider yourself warned. Oblivion's world is so big and there are so many quests that it will give you months of game play. That's right, I said MONTHS, not hours. I suppose you could finish it faster if you don't have a full-time job, or friends, or any others interests. I bought Oblivion in Feb 2007 and I'm still not finished yet as of May 07. I've been playing PC games since they were invented and I've never gotten this kind of mileage for my money!
fun, pretty...has a flaw.......2007-04-21
Very fun game, but be careful leveling up. If you level up too quickly, the missions involving saving npc's get really hard. (Keeping Martin alive at the Defense of Burma becomes more luck than skill.)
I wouldn't have minded this if the heal npc spells were a little stronger, but they're pretty ineffective.
This aspect of the game is counter-intuitive, and led to lots of frustration the first time through the game. (I wanted to kill Martin myself for being such a wimp.)
Deceptively Bad With Good Intentions.......2007-03-29
I almost hate to do this, but i cannot give this game a very high rating for a few reasons...
You have to be careful as to not let, (as I did at first) the amazing graphics fool you into thinking the game is awesome. There are many things that i found disappointing as I progressed through the storyline.
1. My main annoyance was the inventory menu and/or interface. There are far too many spells and potions particularly then you will know what to do with. On top of that, they are so poorly organized that you will become very annoyed with stopping gameplay every 2 seconds and scrolling endlessly through one big list of spells to find the right one. Granted you can hot key they to the number keys, but that will give you only 8 spells out of too many to use in a timely manner. I feel that spells and potions should have been categorized according to what they do, and not just thrown into huge lists which you can only scroll through.
2. Another thing that was disappointing is that the game never gets easier or harder per say. Granted you run into fighting multiple enemies at times which makes things difficult, but since most of your foes level with you it makes for a very uninteresting game. You get no sense of progress or accomplishment as your enemies are always just a mirror image of you. You can just play through the game at level 1 and have the same difficulty as you would playing at level 40.
3. Lastly will all of that excess junk you can carry around like scrolls, spells, potions, and ingredients, you get a huge shortage of armor and weapon variety. I wore the same 2 armor sets through the entire game. It gets old playing a game for that long with a character that always looks the same.
I hate to say it but in these areas, WoW has Oblivion beat. The fact that in WoW, you have a very organized and easy to follow HUD, and only have to deal with fewer spells (however they are relevant) and abilities makes it for a more enjoyable game. Also, there are far far many more ways in which you can customize your character in WoW.
With all the negative aspects of this game there are also some good ones. The AI is pretty good and the games lighting/sounds gives a very epic/ambient feel, which is what a good RPG should do. I enjoyed the FPS type fighting system. I played a magic centered character and the fact that you actually had to aim, or lead moving targets took some getting used to. (Your ranged attacks do not follow targets) But this also allows you to dodge incoming attacks as well. The NPC's are intelligent and act real in the sense that they stick to schedules and perform chores and tasks on their own.
Oblivion is going to have to come up with something better than just amazing graphics to win me over. If there's ever to be a ElderScrollsV, i sure hope they do an overhaul on the game's interface.
