Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sounds Great!!!.......2007-04-13

Simply fantastic sound for two channel audio from a computer. This card is best suited for playing music from your computer over your stereo / home theater system. Most 2-channel computer speakers will require an adapter or new cable to use the RCA output jacks. Worth the trouble for the sound you'll get out of a decent pair of computer speakers.

Has a very high quality D/A converter built in for making digital recordings from vinyl or tape. Recordings sound excellent. Output sounds excellent through either the coaxial digital or analog outputs. Dolby Digital can be automatically passed through the digital output to be decoded by your A/V receiver.

Had no problems with the installation or functioning of this card in Windows XP Pro.

Completely destroys the Audigy 2 it replaced for music. 128 KB MP3 internet radio even sounds awesome through this card. Clean, dynamic and smooth sound. Very pleased with this purchase!!!

The M-Audio 2496 works well for my purposes. It is easy to install and use, and the overall sound is great.
I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Best for the money...for a musician........2006-07-28

The M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is probably the best all-around soundcard available today. I am a musician, so for me, recording in a high quality was very important, and the gsif support was the main reason I purchased this. For the non-musician though, this soundcard might be passed up for the simple reason of convenience.

The Audiophile uses RCA jacks, not the common stereo jacks (1/8" or 1/4") found on the cheap soundcard most computers come with. So if you want this to work with a typical set of computer speakers, you'll need an RCA to stereo adapter.

I recommend this heartily to any musician, but to the non-musician, a simpler, less powerful soundcard is definitely recommended.

Exceptionally quiet and accurate. The best imaging of any sound card in my experience. I'm talking about a clearly audible difference here.

If you're looking for an audiophile level card, this is a very good value.

5 out of 5 stars Audiphile 2496 For True Audiophiles.......2006-04-11

Like the name suggests, the m-audio audiophile 2496 is for true audiophiles. I have had this card for years and there still is few options that are on par with this card for the same money. The audiophile has a full dynamic range of crisp audio with little distortion. I connect my sound card via digital coaxial cable to my Harman Kardon avr 240 and the sound is amazingly clear.

The one drawback to this card is it may be difficult for some to learn to use at first. However, when quality is essential go with the Audiophile 2496.
