Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars painless installation; works as promised.......2007-06-08

I mostly use my burner for backing up movie DVDs, and this dual-layer burner lets me back up from D9 to D9, without having to lose fidelity due to compression. The resulting DVDs are much clearer.

For anyone who's ever changed out a computer disc drive, installing this internal drive will be routine. I had no problems whatsoever, and so far 100% of the discs I've burned have turned out perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD/CD Burner.......2007-05-08

This is a great optical drive. I just installed in a Dell and it works great. It came with a white face plate attached but it comes with a black face plate that is easy to change out. It runs fast and quiet. Comes with Nero software CD. Arrived from Amazon brand new in factory sealed Sony box.

3 out of 5 stars installation dvd not compatible with drive out of the box.......2007-03-11

the installation cd wouldn't run on the drive right out of the box. Thus, the codecs for dvd playback could not be installed and had to be downloaded from the internet to get it working properly.

4 out of 5 stars Works fine.......2007-02-24

Creating full 8.5GB dual layer data DVD takes about 30 min. on a 2Ghz P4 w/1GB ram. 4.7GB data DVD takes about 10 min. Good price. Installed 1/23/07. Sony support is good; updated firmware to v. SS23. This replaces a Plextor PX-W4012TA that lasted only 2 years before self-terminating.

5 out of 5 stars Great Burner that is highly compatible with different DVD medias.......2007-02-22

I have one external Sony burner (DRX530UL)with great experience on branded DVD medias, but not genetic ones. Still I was happy about it and it seems you can always find good deals these days for the blank DVD discs.
The DVD burner that came with my other (Sony) computer all the sudden started to destory my +RW discs recently after nearly zero usage for one year (somehow I use another computer more often, the one with external burner attached) so I had to get an internal one to replace. (By the way I probably should have reviewed that OEM burner with a zero star but decided not to bother).
I went on the research and found this which has great reputation since it's out, and many has noted this model burns most including genetic DVD medias. So I went for it (plus I was orignally wanting to get a SONY to match the computer) and it hasn't disappointed me for over a month usage.
Great product and highly recommend it. Got a DVD-ram but yet got time to test. Have tried out several branded/genetic R and RW discs, all great and my 5+ year DVD player (Toshiba)can play them well.
