Corruption is impossible - the encryption in each drive is unique since this innovative technology depends on a key based on a 24-character pass phrase stored on the board. A little thicker and bigger than a 4-track cassette tape, this is a useful complement to your PC's HD. You can use it as a backup storage or as your mobile drive between home/work/other. For all practical purposes, the 5400rpm speed has no noticeable difference from my PC's built-in HD. Fingerprint adds an extra layer of protection, but not guaranteed by vendor. I tried it on Mac and PC, no problems.

Possible disadvantages:

1) Requires 2 USB plugs (data and data/power) For laptop, could be problem.

2) If fingerprint fails, there's no fail-safe HD auto deletion. Someone could try forever to crack your fingerprint.

3) No software utilities. For example, partitioning you must rely on existing MS or Mac software.

4) What happens if this drive breaks? You need another one to back this up?

All said, this is a great little device. Its a little extra cost for the fingerprint technology if you compared this to another external HD, but not bad.
