Product Description

Add more storage space to your office's network for sharing important files, backing up critical data, and archiving your folders with the LaCie Ethernet Disk. Now available with a Gigabit Ethernet interface, it frees file servers by providing independent, stand-alone storage accessible to anyone on the network. The LaCie Ethernet Disk can be shared by as many as 25 users simultaneously and accessed remotely via the web (http or ftp). Use the web-based management tool, which comes in multiple languages, for easy configuration. Its sturdy, aluminum design can support a monitor, be stacked or fit into a 19" rack.

If you are in a networked environment and need the ability to exercise some control over permissions and quotas, this is not the device for you. The embedded version of XP does not allow for quota management of any type, and permissions are limited to basic share-level rights. I've heard of some people who have loaded XP Pro on to the disk, but this will nullify any support you have from LaCie. We will be looking at the Buffalo NAS.
