Product Description
This new Linksys rackmount switch delivers non-blocking, wire speed switching for your 10, and 100 megabit network clients, plus multiple options for connecting to your network backbone. Twenty-four 10/100 ports wire up your workstations, while the two integrated 10/100/1000BaseTX ports connect to other switches and the backbone at Gigabit speeds. And the mini GBIC port allows future expansion to alternate transmission media like optical fiber. It features WebView monitoring and configuration via your web browser, making it easy to manage the 64 VLANs and up to 7 trunking groups. Or if you prefer, you can use the integrated console port to configure the switch. The non-blocking, wire-speed switching forwards packets as fast as your network can deliver them. Also included are Address Learning and Aging to prevent data transfer errors and Data Flow Control to help prevent packet collisions. Two Quality of Service queues per port let you prioritize traffic via 802.1p. The switch provides broadcast storm suppression, has hardware MAC address learning, and supports packet filtering and port security. All ports have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently and automatically negotiates for best speed and whether to run in half- or full-duplex mode. Head-of-line blocking prevention keeps your high-speed clients from bogging down in lower-speed traffic and fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network. No matter how intensive your network demands, the Linksys 24-Port 10/100 + 2-Port Gigabit Switch with WebView has speed, flexibility, and reliability that you can count on.

I received the Switch very quickly from Electronic Direct after a problem with another company. They are wonderful to work with and I will purchase from them again
Password Reset Solved (No RMA needed).......2006-04-11
Resetting the password on this device is actually quite easy. You need to connect to the switch with a serial cable (to the console port on the back), and start up your HyperTerminal *before* starting up the switch. When the switch is done with it's system check it gives you 3 seconds to hit enter/space before it loads the config. If you hit either key, it will break you out to a maintenance menu which has a "reset password" option. This will reset the password to be blank. I just discovered this, and tried it out. Works like a charm.
It's a switch - nothing fancy. (Found solution to password problems!).......2005-11-29
Ran into the same problem others did with the password which can not be reset. However the reason why they think they mistyped their passwords when setting up the switch is because the SRW224 only supports passwords up to six characters. Longer passwords are truncated without any notification. If you can not log-in to your SRW224 and used a password longer than six characters: try using just the first six. Worked great for me. I informed Linksys and they will be adding this to the next revision of the SRW224 manual.
Otherwise as switches go, it's done its job and has only caused me minor headaches. On the other the supports staff for this switch have proven to be a little undertrained and difficult to communicate with. If you shop around and get a good price on this switch, than it is probably worth the money.
Don't forget your password! No way to reset this device........2005-06-15
Even the internal reset switch is no help. So, don't bother opening up the case to check it out. Besides, the power supply is not enclosed in its own secondary enclosure. So, you may be electrocuted if you do decided to open the case.
The internal reset simply resets the router and holding it down while applying power does not restore the device to factory defaults. It's just a reset switch and nothing more. Inside there are no jumpers either. There are a couple of locations for jumpers, but shorting the associated traces doesn't restore factory defaults either.
The manufacturer may defend this by saying the password protection is robust, but the reality is that it's just lazy software (firmware) development practices and a bad deisgn specification. After all, its obvious that is was contracted out and not designed in house.
Overall it's a good performer. I have had two units in service coupled with fiber optic cables and 1000BaseSX interfaces for more than 6 months without so much as a hiccup, but I consider the inability to recover the pasword protection a serious design flaw. Perhaps a firmware update is forthcoming, but I doubt their sales volume will warrant a new release of the firmware.
So, go ahead an get one. It's cheap and reliable, but write down your password and don't, mistype it. You will never be able to alter its configuration again and you'll end up like me. I now have a non-configurable spare.
Can not reset password.......2005-06-02
I have a few of this units, and for the most part I was happy.
When configuring one of them, I somehow made a mistake typing in the password, and made the same mistake twice. Or perhaps the machine just freaked out when I set the password. Button line - I could not log on to it after setting the password.
There is no reset switch. Nothing about resetting the password in the documentation. Called Linksys. They told me there was no way to reset the password. Told me my only option was to RMA the unit for a new one.
With no way to reset the password, I will never buy one of these units again.
