Product Description
Hawking's UC1284P USB to Parallel Printer Adapter allows your PCs, notebooks, laptops, and handheld PDA devices that support the USB specification to print to any parallel printer via the USB with up to 12 Mbps throughput - which is much faster than standard parallel port speeds. The cable provides true plug and play and hot plugging capability. For further convenience, the adapter derives its operating power from the Universal Serial Bus itself, so no bulky external power supply needs to be taken along. And because it is a USB Specification compliant device, the cable supports energy-saving suspend and resume operations.
Customer Reviews:
Parallel to USB Cable........2007-03-10
The laser printer had the heavy bulky parallel cable to connect to the computer. I bought the Parallel to USB Cable, which a a thin cable. It worked as advertised.
Plugged it in and it works........2006-02-24
This cable attaches to your computer's USB port and the other end plugs into the Parallel Port on the printer, not to the end of the parallel cable that attaches to the computer, as I originally thought. In any event, it works fine. So now I can use my Parallel printer with my laptop that does not have a parallel port, even with my old DOS program (that knows nothing about a USB port) by setting the printer as "Shared" and using the "NET USE" command. Great!
It just doesn't work........2005-10-26
Tried it with multiple hardware setups and multiple operating systems. One out of every two print jobs simply hangs up, and I have to delete the job, disconnect the cable and reconnect it, and print it again.
In other words, it just doesn't do what it's supposed to, failing half the time.
Don't bother with this product. Radio Shack makes a fine USB-to-parallel that even works with Linux and Macintosh, and there's probably a Radio Shack near where you live where you can have it today.
