When the first shipment arrived, I spent two hours trying to get it to work. From the reviews, I knew it had to work out of the box. I also knew
that it's picky about which circuit it's connected to. So I tested at various locations. Even in the same room. No luck. After two hours, I
decided it's probably DOA.
I just don't want to call the tech support number (I spent 15min just trying
to find the number) and waste two more hours. So I shipped it back for replacement. When the second shipment came, it worked right away. But it
worked only on a plug on a wall away from the computer. So I had to run a
cable inside the room. Better than running cable through the walls. I only
get 8Mbps for speed. Not as advertised 85Mbps. Also, there is a question
of how long it will last. I'm keeping ny fingers crossed. This is a replacement of XE102 I used for 6 months. That XE102 worked for a while and then died. I don't know if it did anything to the electric circuit when XE102 died. Now I put XE103 in the same spot, it would not work.
I have to plug it onto a different wall.

It took longer to unpack the product than it did to plug them in and have everything working smoothly. Netgear even threw in two hefty Ethernet cables so the customer has everything needed right out of the box.

I have a Mac running OS 10.4 on one floor and another Mac running OS 8.6 on another floor. No problem.

I cannot verify the 85 Mbps speed claim. Available software testers on the Internet give wildly different numbers. Suffice to say that my wife and I are quite happy with whatever speed the units actually run at.

I have a long thin house with a broadband feed/router at one end, a spouse's office at the other and a couple of computers in between. With all the cable and switches it seemed I was forever restarting something in the network to keep my spouse happy. No more. I plugged one of these puppies in to the wall and connected it to a lan port on the router, walked to the other end of the house, plugged the other into the wall and connected my spouse's switch. It just worked. I give it four stars because the units feel kinda cheap and plasticky and it doesn't take much of a nudge to dislodge the cable from the unit (I have jumpy feet while I'm working). If the price drops a bit in the future I may get rid of the ethernet cabling all together.

After writing an angry review for the Vonage VOIP telephone service I thought how sad it was that we are motivated to write reviews when we are angry. So I wondered aloud what good review I could write, when my partner said, "We should review the wall-plugged ethernet adaptor we bought. It has been fantastic!" Indeed it has been. We bought it from Amazon, got it without any trouble, plugged it in, and it has been working like a wonder ever since. It allows you to have high speed internet on a second computer, over your homes electrical system, by plugging in one bridge at the electric outlet near the router, and the other one whereever you want your second computer (in our case in the are off the downstairs living room.)

It was easy as pie to install, but unlike wireless products, we have had not a moment of downtime, or any hassles whatsoever. It works well and reliably and fast. I am amazed these things have not taken off more. I swore after a couple of bad experiences with wireless networking never to go that way again, and am really pleased with the outcome of that decision.

They are not easy to find, and after trying many stores, we had to buy online from Amazon, and go to the USA to pick it up, but since then it has worked very well. One of the best purchases we have ever made!
