Product Description
The RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter (WN121T) delivers an innovation in wireless technology with up to 15 times the speed and 10 times the coverage of today's Wireless-G networks when used with the RangeMax Next Wireless-N Router. RangeMax Next Wireless-N uses draft 11n technology to transmit multiple streams of data in a single wireless channel. This Next generation technology delivers the speed you need to run even the most demanding of wireless applications.NETGEAR's exclusive Steady-Stream technology creates consistent wireless connections - no more dead spots or dropped connections. Using multiple streams of data that dynamically adapt to interference, the RangeMax Next Wireless-N technology boosts your network coverage area by up to ten times that of standard wireless networks. It also maintains connection speeds up to fifteen times faster than legacy Wireless-G at the edge of its range. The WN121T secures enough bandwidth and range to support file sharing, MP3 downloads, Internet phone calls, network gaming and multimedia applications all simultaneously and at consistent speeds. The RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter is backward compatible with legacy 802.11b/g wireless standard products. Smart Wizard simplifies setup and Touchless WiFi Security makes connecting to secure networks simple and fast. The WN121T has a USB 2.0 interface, so it can enable your notebook or desktop computer to connect at Wireless-N speeds at the first time. And if you are on the go, the USB cable tucks away for easy storage.
Customer Reviews:
sound .......2007-05-17
like one of the other reviewers stated.. I too have had this item screw up my sound. i cant listen to music with out it studdering... shame on you netgear!!!
fast wireless .......2007-05-09
this is a usb type wireless adapter. it works with the n type of router. i did see a significant change in speed even with my netgear etreme rangemax router. dodnt have a mimo router yet.
however the area of coverage is no better thn any other basic adapter.
if you have a desk top then you can get a wireless card for about 20 bucks. these cards have the same area of connectivity. no change when i compared mine.
yes the speed is better.
DO NOT PURCHASE!.......2007-04-28
This USB adapter will cause your sound card to stutter in a horrible manner. Many users on the netgear forum are reporting this issue and NETGEAR is not fixing this problem.
This is not a problem with XP/Vista IRQ conflicts (I went through the process of verifying this myself, which requires me to re-install XP to get my hyper threading support back). This is 100% a NETGEAR issue.
Perfect addition to an existing computer.......2007-04-08
I purchased this for my server while I was moving it to a location in the house that didn't already have a internet port. It has worked extremely reliably... Currently I am using it in conjunction with a 802.11g router... but my next purchase will be an -n to complete the system!
Brings life back to an old dog!.......2007-02-23
I bought this adapter for my HP IQ770. It already had a built in wireless connection but it was not the 802.11n draft that is the fastest right now. My router is the Netgear 802.11n draft WNR834B so I wanted my computer to match.
I hooked it up to the computer and...NOTHING! I was so upset! It only interfered with the computers original settings. So I un-installed and thought maybe to resell on Amazon or eBay. My new laptop already has the 802.11n draft built in so I didn't need it for that.
I figured I would try it on my "antique" Dell laptop that does not even have a wireless connection. Previously I had installed a wireless card and I would be lucky if I turned the laptop this way or that way, I could get at least a couple bars. So that was why I bought my new one. My teenage son now has my old one and he never used it because the connection was so bad. I thought what's it going to hurt to hook it up on that and run it with that laptop?!
So after a quick 5 minute set-up, not only was I picking up my network connection (anywhere in the house) with ALL BARS but I was also picking up my neighbors connection across the street! (perfect example why it is SO IMPORTANT to lock your network with password protection...I plan on telling her that she needs to change her set-up!)
So to make a long review short! This is the greatest adapter for any computer that DOES NOT have a built in wireless connection already. Not one review said that "this works best with no integrated wireless connections on your computer already" so now I am telling everyone that! Or maybe if you disabled your original connection it might work, I didn't want to do that just in case I wasn't happy with the adapter and I would have to reset things on my desktop. It's great for laptops though! So now when the snow finally melts, my son can go outside with his new antique laptop!
My suggestion on this though...run it with an N-draft router, you will get the best performance out of it! This adapter is only going to be as fast as your router...if you have any of the older 802.11 a/b/g routers, you are not going to be satisfied! Netgears current N-draft routers are WNR834B which is up to 270Mpbs (my review is based on that one) Or you can go with the WNR854T which offers up to 300Mpbs but there's also an average of $50 more added on too! For a $50 price break, you are NEVER going to notice a 30Mpbs difference!
