The Archos 500879 Docking Adapter Kit is designed to be used with your Archos 404, 504, or 604 series portable digital media players. The Archos docking adapter perfectly complements your Archos portable media player, allowing it to charge more quickly than when it is simply connected to your computer via a USB cable. This unit also allows your Archos media player to transfer files to and from your computer, as well as allowing you to transfer photos directly from a digital camera via USB host. This adapter features built-in connections for a USB device (miniB connector), a USB host (A connector), and a DC input, and runs on 5.2 volts and 2 amps via an Archos power supply. The Archos docking adapter weighs only 0.8 ounces, and measures 3.3 x 1.1 x 0.6 inches (W x H x D). The Archos docking adapter kit includes the docking adapter, a power adapter with multiple plugs for Europe, the US, and the UK, and a USB cable for connecting to a computer.

If you own an Archos media player, you'll need this. It allows faster charging then from the USB cable. And it allows most digital cameras to transfer pictures directly to it.

Archos 504 add ons.......2007-06-09

If you buy an Archos 504 you just about have to spring for this kit too, which is total BS as far as I am concerned. The 504 is OK. Only reason I bought it was it is the only 80 gig mp3 player that has an easily replaceable battery. Having to buy this stuff separately is ridiculous!

I bought this so that I could avoid having to charge my Archos 604 using the computer. I am also looking forward to using the USB ports on this adapter to download photos and mpeg videos onto my Archos for storage while on vacation. The USB ports fit the cords for my digital camera (and the even-more-handy MobileMate memory card adapter that I use), so I will transfer photos and movies over during vacation to free up space on my memory card, without having to lug around a lap-top or computer. This will save me a lot of money, since I won't have to pay for another memory card. I am trying to decide whether to purchase the DVR dock, as well. I can't seem to record purchased DVDs directly to my Archos using my computer. Looks like I would have to buy software to do that, so I just may end up buying the DVR station soon.

This little piece of plastic works like they say it should, although, I think it should be standard equipment when you purchase your archos player. But it is not so I had to purchase this on line. You can connect practically anything with a USB 2.0 plug. The only thing that I have that it did not work with was my portable hard drive, though it did power it up. I downloaded pictures straight from my digital camera to my archos 504. I also used a card reader and transfered files that way as well.
