Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Not for P2P applications.......2007-04-16

If you use P2P (file sharing) applications, then this modem is not for you. It has a maximum of 192 simlutaneous connections, and it can't be increased using telnet. Even when I set my P2P application to a max of 80 connections, I couldn't visit any webpages because they wouldn't load up. Furthermore, when compared to my previous modem (Westell 327W), it was about 100kb/s slower on the upload, but the download speed was the same.

However, if you don't use P2P applications, and all you do is surf the web, then I would consider this to be an excellent modem.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the other two.......2006-08-14

I have installed three different makes of DSL modems, some of them multiple times. Out of the three, this one is the best. One of the others is supplied by Qwest, from ActionTec--it goes down and requires restart too often--maybe once a month or so. I can't remember the brand of the other one, but I couldn't even get it installed properly. After looking up their tech support number on their web site, I called it, only to find the number was not in service. I returned that modem and got one of these. This one just plugs in and works after a few mouse clicks. It is stable too, doesn't require restarts.

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised; does everything I want it to do........2006-07-21

This modem is fast and has a built in switcher and mechanical firewall. Despite what other reviewers have said, I had zero trouble with set up. (It does help to read the manual first.) It has worked every time without any hiccups. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great Modem, Worthless Auto-Configuring.......2006-07-16

I had to call tech support three times before I finally got someone to talk with. Third time was certainly the charm for me because the fella was great at helping me finally get the darn thing set up correctly. I did have some failures because I mistyped my password but when I corrected that I was then instantly connected online, as you'll be everytime your computer's finished loading up. This is the first modem I've had that does that, and it's almost half the size of the Speedstream I'd gotten for free from SBC Yahoo with their DSL deal a few years ago. I'd recently upgraded my service to the fastest speed they have but the SpeedStream was unable to handle it so I needed a better modem.

I'd give this modem 5 stars but I'm deducting a point for two reasons: the lousy auto-config which, even if you follow the manual to a T, is still impossible to do so you WILL need tech support, and; because they don't have a toll-free number. When I asked why the guy said that it was to keep the price down. Dunno if I really buy that or not but I'm just glad that I got someone who helped me set up my modem in a timely fashion.

And the fact that the modem's ETA was July 18-21 but the modem actually arrived on the 10th, less than a week after I ordered it, grants another point, this to Amazon, for such unbelievably speedy delivery. As someone told me online who recommended this one to me this is the last modem that you'll ever need.

1 out of 5 stars HOPE you don't have a problem.......2006-07-07

if it were possible, I would give it zero stars. Auto configure DOES NOT WORK. Plan on it taking about 30 mminutes to self set up if you already have your pertinent info (VCI, VPI, and Encapsulation). I have to restart my computer and reflash modem every time my computer goes to sleep to make the modem work.

Tech support is terrible. No one is ever there. Their hours are 9:00am - 9:00pm EST. I work 7am-7pm (CST) mon thru friday. I get home about 7:25 pm. That means if there is a problem, I have 35 minutes to try to get a hold of someone. If I am paying for the call (that's right it is NOT 1-800) and I paid good money for the product, My modem's company should not dictate when I have to get a hold of them. I have a family. I want to spend time with them. I should be able to deal with my modem on my time. I bought this modem 48 hours ago and plan on returning it. SOMEBODY IN INDIA IS BETTER THAN NOBODY.
