Product Description

The Iogear DVI KVMP Switch GCS1762 switch charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by combining a 2-port USB KVM switch with USB peripheral sharing capability at the same time as it provides an interface for a digital monitor (DVI). As a KVM switch, it allows users to access two computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor, and any peripherals such as printers and scanners. The GCS1762's independent (asynchronous) switching feature, allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharers - such as printer servers, modem splitters, etc. The GCS1762 further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. Computer selection via front panel switches and hot keys LED display for easy status monitoring Auto Scan Mode for monitoring all computers Easy installation Hot pluggable - add or remove computers for maintenance without powering down the switch Supports Windows and Mac host systems Video Resolution - Up to 1600 x 1200 On Line LED - 2 x Orange USB Peripherals LED - 2 x Green Selected LED - 2 x Orange Housing Case - Metal Microphone - 2 x Microphone jack Monitor - 2 x DVI-I ports (female) Audio - 2 x Stereo earphone jack Keyboard & Mouse - 2 x USB Type B sockets System Requirements - A DVI Monitor, A USB style mouse, A USB style keyboard, Optional Microphone and speakers, A DVI port from computer, Type A USB port, Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Mac OS 8.6 or greater, Linux, UNIX, Audio - Requires 2-piece powered speaker system Dimensions - Depth 7.87 (19.99 cm) x Height 1.65 (4.19 cm) x Width 2.93 inch (7.44 cm) Unit Weight - 1.76 pounds

5 out of 5 stars Works great with Macs.......2007-06-02

I am using this to connect a PowerMac G5 and a Powerbook/MacBook to a 20'' Cinema Display. No setup required, works like a charm. I would highly recommend this unit to all Mac users. The only thing one has to be careful about is the fact that >20'' Cinema Displays are NOT supported.

5 out of 5 stars Works fine - includes all cables.......2007-05-25

I recently upgraded my home PC to one that came with a flat panel monitor that used DVI cables. I had been using a Linksys VGA type KVM switch which I loved and worked perfectly but did not work with the DVI type monitor requirements. I was a little worried reading the reviews of this product, but I was able to install it in about 5 minutes and so far, it has worked perfectly. I'm using it with the a Dell Dimension E521 and a 20inch wide screen flat panel monitor and my work laptop (Dell Latitude 610 with port replicator). It works fine with the new Dell keyboard and scroll wheel mouse.

4 out of 5 stars Meets expectations.......2007-05-12

I used (cheap) KVM switches some time ago that use analog VGA. Screen image quality was degraded while using them. Purchasing this DVI KVM switch I hope this will not be an issue. I was not disappointed.

PRO: Screen image quality did not degrade and one can not tell a difference when connected everything through the device.

PRO: All required cables are included with the device.

PRO: Amazon's price of the item was significantly lower then MSRP and pricing of the other stores.

CON: USB ports for mouse and keyboard are located on the front of the device, while everything else is connected to the back. I can't think of any reason why would those ports located on the front. Although this is minor for me since I situated the device under the desk.

CON: Buttons on the front of the device are not easy to use since they are hard to press while device is not heavy enough. This is also not a big deal because the device is under the desk and because of the following:

PRO: Keyboard shortcut switching is really handy and has multiple shortcuts to switch components selectively (audio, controls, extra USB, video, etc.) as well as everything all together.

PRO: Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard works perfectly with all extra-button functionality. (Earlier someone mentioned that device affects the extra functionality)

CON: If video is not switched to a computer while it boots up (comes back from the stand-by or hibernation) strange problem occurs in 100% of cases when making it active: monitor switches to lower resolution, but adapter doesn't, so image scrolls on the screen. I don't have enough knowledge to blame the device, OS or DVI technology, nor I had time to troubleshoot the problem. This is just annoying, but if remember to switch to computer while it boots up, I can live with it.

The product is used with: Dell XPS 410, Dell D-dock (Inspiron 600m or Latitude 820) as secondary monitor, Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard, Dell Optical Wheel mouse, Dell DVI flat panel, Logitec Z4 speakers.

I would recommend this product to people that need to share DVI monitor, USB peripherals and audio across multiple computers. Video quality doesn't degrade.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2007-03-02

Bought one. Didn't work. Called their tech support. After being put through typical basics (power cycle unit, try different cables, etc.) was instructed to return it for a new switch.
Went through the same thing with second switch. This time I will get store credit and cut my losses.

4 out of 5 stars works great!.......2007-02-26

Works great for me. Set it up in minutes. I hookedup my home desktop, and my work laptop via docking station.

The only thing I do not like about it is that the USB ports for the keyboard/mouse are on the front. I would have preferred they are on the back to be neater. I have a wireless keyboard/mouse - so no need to even see the USB cable that goes to the receiver.

Unlike the other user who indicated it does not work with multifunction/media keyboard - everything works fine for me. Ie media, volume, favorite buttons.

I use the hot keys to switch. I might look into changing them as it says you can do in the book.

I love how you can (but don't have to)seperately control the keyboard, usb devices, and sound through the use of the hot keys. It works great.
