Good Idea but not very good quality.......2007-05-15

Instructions were almost non-existent. Spent hours trying to get it to work. I called tech support (in India) and they made me go through the same steps I had tried several times, even after explaining I had already done that. They certainly use a help desk software and don't know anything about the product. I suggested the problem may be my router configuration, but was told the router was setup properly and supported. After 1 hour I was given a return number and was told to send it back and they would send me another one. I returned it and waited two weeks and my replacement arrived. I hooked it up and had the same problem (network light flashes and does not connect). I did extensive internet research and found that others had made it work with my router if the firmware was updated. I had already updated my firmware, but I did it again. I took the slingbox to my office and it connected immediately. This confirmed my suspicion that the problem was my router and not the slingbox. I purchased a new router and it works as it should which brings me to the reason for the two star rating.

The rating is based on the operation of the slingbox and not the lack of competent support. The quality of the picture outside my local network is poor at best. I thought it may be my input signal, but have tried other signals and still have the poor quality. The picture quality is acceptable only as a last resort to view TV channels. I hope in the future they improve the quality to the point it is viewable outside my local network. I would not reccommend buying this to view outside your local network.

Did exactly what it's supposed to do. The picture quality is OK, but not great with the tuner version of the Slingbox - but that's to be expected.

Easy install. Looks great on my Treo 700p and it works through the firewall at work with no adjustments. Now I have access to daytime baseball, again.

I have heard about the Slingbox for several years now but never gave too much thought to purchasing one. The places I would view it from were too limited to make it worthwhile. However, there are now very few places that don't have high speed internet access. I also now have high speed wireless internet access from almost anywhere on my laptop and phone. So, the Slingbox finally seemed like it might be 'worth it'.

I have owned the Slingbox Tuner for about a month now and I absolutely love it! A couple of weeks ago I had a large group of other Dad's all huddled around me during my daughter's softball game. It was Dice K's first start against the dreaded/hated Yankees and we were all stuck at the softball field. I was the hit of the day with the Slingplayer going on my Treo.

Since then I have had several occasions to use the Slingbox (mostly for Red Sox games so far). For the cheap one-time cost you can't go wrong. If you have high availabity to high speed internet access I can't recommend this product enough. I have found the video resolution to vary between really good and marginally acceptable depending on my internet connection. But given the choice between not watching a Sox game and watching a Sox game via a marginally acceptable video stream, I'll take the latter everytime!
