Customer Reviews:
Had it up and running in five minutes..........2007-06-12
This is a little honey of a router. It is so simple to set up.
You get a nice little webpage to see how it is functioning and the statistics of your data stream coming through this.
You can tell it which ports to keep open.
I got this since I am running webpages off of my home computer and needed an extra layer of security besides my software firewall.
This is perfect.
Might be OK - if it worked.......2007-06-01
Actually as far as a straight-through connection it worked - but there was a fatal flaw. I could not access the configuration page, which meant I could not do the IP assignments, Port Forwarding etc necessary to actually allow it to be useful in my environment. Instead I just got an error message when I tried to access the configuration page. D-Link Tech "Support" was a joke. They were overseas and clueless, and could think of nothing. So they said the unit must be bad, exchange it. I did - same problem. Again the "Support" was clueless. So I finally had to return this for a refund and am now looking elsewhere. I went on the 'Net and found other people with the same problem, also with no solution. Obviously, though, some people have had no problem. So if you buy it you are gambling that a) it is compatible with your system or b) you will never have to access the configuration page. Sorry, but that is a roulette game you shouldn't have to play. Avoid this.
I'm very pleased.......2007-05-31
After moving to different city, and finding out that my old router would not work for some reason (I even called their tech support, and they were stumped!), I decided to try another router.
This little D-link is the most trouble free router I've ever bought. The wizard went to work, and even though it took it a few minutes, it finally configured the router, and I was up & running.
It's been 2 months now, and I haven't had a lick of trouble (wish I could have said the same for my old router).
Plays well with the Mac.......2007-05-30
Although the box doesn't say so, this unit does set up and run with the Mac. Just ignore the Setup Wizard on the CD and most of the 66-page manual on the CD. To set up the router, connect the unit to your Mac using the thoughtfully included Ethernet cable, be sure you are NOT connected to the Internet, power up the router and your Mac, [...]. The router will self-configure, asking you to change the password if you so choose. Piece of cake.
If the box had contained just one slip of paper recapitulating the above for non-Windows users, I would have saved considerable time searching for MAC addresses, DNS adressses, and IP addresses that the router actually finds all by itself; and I would have rated it 5 stars.
Thank Goodness for D-Link!!!!.......2007-03-24
You can read my review of the horrendous time we had with the Syslink BEFSR41 under that product.
Returned it and purchased the D-Link EBR-2310. After the terrible experience with the Syslink, we felt as though a miracle had happened, when almost immediately all 3 computers we hooked up WORKED!!!! Truely 'plug and play'.
Great product - should have read the reviews BEFORE purchasing the Syslink.
