Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good product.......2007-04-10

Wish the slider mechanism was a little sturdier but if you are careful with it (as I have been) it works well.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice packaging plus good functionality.......2007-04-02

Very nice, compact unit. Great for laptop due to small size plus protects LAN connection. Totally agree with reviewer Rizzo about sliding button on top. I haven't had as much trouble with it as he has (hasn't broken off) but you must keep a firm thumb on it to plug into tight receptacles.

5 out of 5 stars Great concept but killed by a poor build........2006-01-24

Update to my original 5 star review: lose 2 stars for poor build quality. The sliding button at the top is very poorly integrated. It appears to be a single piece of plastic simply snapped into another moving piece of plastic that pushes the metal plug prongs in and out. As soon as I encountered an outlet with a little resistance the button popped off. I was able to pop it back in, but it stayed loose. After about 20 uses, it completely broke off today when simply trying to extend the prongs (no outlet involved). I love the concept for this product, but the sliding button needs to be improved significantly.

Original review: Having just purchased my first beautiful Apple PowerBook I was looking to protect it like a newborn! I checked the usual stores: Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Circuit City... they all had the same "Universal" protector that would have worked with my old Dell, but did not seem to have the same form factor as Apple's power cube. So I decided to look for a small protector with one or more standard power outlets. Most of the products I found at CompUSA & Micron Center all had prongs that jutted out and got tangled in the mesh of my laptop back-pack storage pockets and only had protection for telephone lines, not Ethernet cables like I mostly use when traveling.

Finally I found this Protect It Traveler, made by Tripp-Lite. Tripp-Lite has a very good reputation and makes professional surge/spike suppression products. The specs are excellent considering the size of the device. Unlike most "travel" surge suppressors, this one has jacks that fit an Ethernet cable as well as telephone cable. Even cooler is the retractable plug... no more tangles in my mesh pockets or bent/broken prongs!

This should be available in every store that sells laptops or other portable electronics!
