Product Description

The Wireless-N USB Network Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce Dead Spots in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G. <BR> With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless G. Your wireless connection is protected by industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter lets you access the fastest and most advanced wireless solutions currently available. With this unit enabling your PC or laptop, you can run media-intensive applications at amazing speeds, without the hassle or expense of stringing a lot of wires.

The Linksys Wireless-N USB Network Adapter uses the very latest in wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's Multiple-In, Multiple-Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Whereas ordinary wireless technologies are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually makes use of these reflections to increase the range while reducing dead spots in the coverage area. This means the signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections at up to three times the distance of standard Wireless-G, so the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. This Wireless-N adapter is fully backward compatible, so it works great with standard Wireless-G and -B routers, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N enabled, you can experience increased throughput by using twice as much radio band, which allows speeds up to 15 times that of standard Wireless-G.

To help protect your data and privacy, this wireless adapter can encode all its wireless transmissions with iron-clad, 256-bit Wireless Protected Access (WPA2) encryption. Yet, despite a robust and deep set of features and functionality, configuration is simple and easy with an included web browser-based configuration utility. The incredible speed of Wireless-N networking is ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and voice-over-IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams at the same time, without worrying about a degradation in performance.

The Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N network adapter is easy to use, and can be plugged in to any open USB port. To experience the full advantages of Wireless-N technology, it is highly recommended that you use USB 2.0. This unit is FCC, CE, and IC-03 certified, receives power through its USB connection so it doesn't require an external power supply, and is backed by a manufacturer's limited three-year warranty.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Poor Indoor Range.......2007-06-06

Others have reviewed this product for speed and reliability and it does seem like a good choice but I bought this product for 1 main purpose which is to be able to connect over a wider range... 54Mbps (for wireless-G) is not bad at all if you compare it to 2-base-T or 10-base-T networks or the early wireless technology of 2 Mbps.
Unfortunately, the indoor range for this adaptor is not at all four times as much as for wireless-G. It's barely 10% better! Plus, the Linksys driver/utility is too simple yet not intuitive! I didn't get the "profiles" idea and I would definitely like to see a noise indicator as well as a graph that records network signal power, quality and noise.
What I read in other reviews like not having to unplug/replug and its amazing speed are true. And the manufacturing quality is good as well.

Although I'm not using this adapter because it doesn't cover the range I need it to cover, I didn't return it back to Amazon because I think it's worth keeping

2 out of 5 stars Not what you would expect.......2007-03-30

I purchased this product thinking that the newer Wireless-N technology would allow me to have better wireless access to my upstairs computer. Such is not the case. The wireless signal still has issues with distance and wall interference.

I have better luck with my Linksys Wireless G network adapter. I suggest saving money and buy the G adapter or wait until more advanced technology is developed.

1 out of 5 stars Avoid this one.......2007-03-29

This is one to avoid. I've tried it on two computers, using it with the companion WRT300N router, and it glitches badly on both computers. The speed is an improvement over Wireless-G, but not much; and the stability is much worse. If anyone in the area turns on a microwave oven, or even if there is other wireless traffic, it goes into instability and has to be reset. Also, about every 30-60 seconds, it grabs the CPU for a couple seconds, causing harsh noise from audio and a second or two total halt of any game being played. In Windows XP it shows the 270 Mbps speed, but doing SiSandara benchmarks the actual throughput is a fraction of that, barely better than the 56 or so Mbps of Wireless-G. In Vista, it simply does not recognize the Wireless-N protocol, and works as a very slow Wireless-G; again confirmed with SiSandra benchmarks. Tech support from Linksys these days is a joke. It is offshore support by very nice, very polite people who don't know anything that doesn't pop up in their menus - and more important, who don't have recourse to someone who can answer the tough questions. I tried chat, phone and email support and got tripe each time. In the past I've experienced excellent performance from Linksys products, but it's like a different company now that Cisco has bought them out, a company to be avoided.

4 out of 5 stars It works!.......2007-03-21

I'd been using a G-class Wi-Fi card with my N-class router which was fine except for periodic loss of connectivity requiring me to reboot the router. Finally frustrated and sure it was my network and not the ISP, I dropped the cash on the USB adapter so I could switch it between my desktop and laptop when necessary. The setup was effortless but I did run into a minimal amount of trouble before I realized I should disable my G-class adapter (d'oh!). It also looks cool and has bright Bluetooth-esque lights on the top so you can quickly tell if it's connected and sending/receiving data. I don't give it 5 stars only because I have only had it for a couple of weeks but unless something unexpectedly disastrous occurs I recommend this adapter without reservation.

5 out of 5 stars It's a strong & solid connection, when paired with an N router........2007-03-08

Using the Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter (paired with their new 4400N router) enabled me to get a true improvement over my previous Wireless-B and Wireless-G pairing of devices. Keeping an N / N set-up in place yielded an 80 - 100% increase in signal strength. Also, the typical new connection's speed went from 11.0 MBPS to 160.0 MBPS (and above); I haven't lost any connections due to the Linksys N hardware, it's there whenever I want it. I haven't yet ventured into setting up the VPN features so I can't comment on it. If you have signal strength and/or connection speed issues with your old hardware, the utilization of the new draft-N devices (at both ends) should get you what you want. As expected, Vonage works perfectly on the 4400N router's ethernet type cable connection ports...so no worries there. COMMENT: I did have to play with the set-up of the WUSB300N; if I recall correctly, I had to let Windows set up the device first, then go and get the driver on the furnished software disk. Linksys' recommended set-up procedure didn't seem to go in a direction that made me feel at ease...so I abandoned that approach and resorted to a more typical set-up approach within Windows.
