Customer Reviews:
Works out of the box with Ubuntu.......2007-05-02
I bought this card to install into an Ubuntu(7.04) Linux box. The card was recognized by Ubuntu immediately and it loaded the correct drivers. If you have any trouble with the driver, make sure you have the linux-restricted-modules installed, as the madwifi driver for this card is included in that package. Just search for madwifi in the package manager and it should install everything you need.
I have yet to get WPA working correctly with this card, and I'm not sure if it's the card or the operating system. Some people on various message boards have claimed it works after some tweaking, so I'm going to look into that.
All in all, I'm very happy I purchased this card, and the price can't be beat. Several of the other cards I looked at by the big name manufacturers (D-Link, Linksys, Netgear...) were more expensive and had nominal support in Linux.
Excellent Card.......2007-03-22
The TRENDnet wireless card is excellent, but the setup could definitely be better, especially if you use an encrypted access point or router (i.e. WEP, WPA, etc.). The first thing I found was I had to turn off Windows XP's wireless configuration wizard. Next I had to configure everything using the TRENDnet Wireless Configuration utility. It seems a bit touchy to get it to remember the password, especially if you used something other than the default first key. Once everything works and it keeps the password it will be trouble free from then on. Also, on an unprotected access point it has no problems.
Great product!.......2007-03-09
This performs better than the name brand card that I purchased for my laptop!
Drivers don't work.......2007-02-04
Good luck getting this one to work. I tried four different drivers - the drivers included on the CD, Windows' built-in Atheros NIC drivers, and both drivers from TRENDnet's very own web site (yes, there are drivers for each of the two different hardware versions of this card), and none of them worked. I couldn't open the TRENDnet utility, couldn't adjust Windows' wireless network settings, and couldn't start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. It also made my computer hang on two occasions. Utter crap!
*** NO WIN98SE Support ***.......2007-01-30
As mentioned previously, this adapter installation will NOT run on Win98SE, WinME or Win95. Don't try it. The installation utility tries to use Devcon.exe, which does not support these MS-Windows versions (ms kb 311272). Don't believe what the add says, or what's printed on the box. TrendNet support admitted that it doesn't work with Win98SE.
