Product Description
Intelligent MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) spatial multiplexing techniques build upon the widely deployed 802.11g standard by greatly increasing speed, range, and faster speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Using this smart-antenna technology, N1 Wireless from Belkin delivers greater range and faster speeds, for a quick and efficient way to distribute video, music, photos, and files among the networked computers in your home. The built-in Network Status Display lets you see your connections working. Each icon represents a network component, so you can easily monitor for fast troubleshooting. Customer Reviews:
Looks great, works poorly.......2007-06-13
I bought this in Feb of '07 due to the draft 802.11n specs as upgrade to my Pre-N router that was also from Belkin. That model though had almost perfect stability which is what my gripe with this is: intermittent connections.
Installation was a breeze and aesthetically it's the best looking router hardware but unfortunately frequently dropped connections (from a mere distance of 20 ft, on different channels from my cordless phone, and away from any walls and major physical obstructions) just does not cut it. A waste of $150.. stick with the Pre-N in my opinion if you want Belkin or look elsewhere.

I previously had a Belkin Router and I had no doubt about which would my next buy be ... This is a real good router - only and only if - the setup process was good ... There were hitches in the initial setup of the router ... If only the Manual and the Autostart were in sync about the process ! ... Otherwise - a recommended router ... Happy to have it!
Security Setup & Support Need Improvement.......2007-05-24
Router works great with very good range and the setup to get it working on my desktop machine(Windows2000) & my notebook(XP) couldn't be easier. However, enabling security is almost impossible without calling support. And I had to go through 4 different support techs to get it worked out. With the desktop running Windows2000 an important step was left out of the security setup instructions. On the notebook, it appears to be necessary to use the utility built into XP instead of the Belkin utility. Poor security setup instructions and support people that didn't know much translated into an afternoon wasted in order to enable security.
STATE OF THE ART.......2007-04-25
I replaced my four year old wireless router, that had trouble connecting from the second floor to my first floor computer, with the Belkin N1 Wireless Router. NOW, I connect to the immediate neighborhood!! Make sure you secure your connection with a password. No more dropped connections with the N1. Mike Barrett.
dumbest design ever!.......2007-04-23
I'm specialized in Networking. I had used countless brands and models when it comes to setting up LAN for business or residential.
I had a chance to look and use a brand new Belkin N1 Wireless Router recently. I have no idea who heads their design department at Belkin, but they should get rid of him soon.
The first problem I have with this product is the venting holes on the top. They obviously want to be helpful by wrapping a sheet of instruction around the router to make it easy for the consumer to know what cables plug into what. But, the instruction also covered up the venting holes. To make things worst. The warning sign is only a fine print with the same color as the instruction. They should have done it in different color and warns about overheating.
Speaking of overheating, I actually saw a router got overheat because the instruction sheet was not removed prior to use. So, if you really want to buy one of this, make sure you peel off the instruction sheet before plug in the power.
The Second thing I noticed is that you have to use N1 card with the N1 router. It may says its backward compatible, but it never does. The wireless G card/adapter or integrated wireless G in the notebook will only work with this router for a short period of time then it would require reset or restart of the router.
If you don't have high demand for what this router is offering, then I'd recommend you stay away from this product. A simple D-Link or Linksys wireless G router would be good enough. If you have a big house, consider buying router with range booster, it usually works. But never consider speed booster, it's not worth the money.
