Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I get 11 different wireless networks in the city........2007-06-08

The DWL-G550 is a great card. This card works with Microsoft Windows XP-64 Bit version. Real XP-64 Bit drivers are available. It is one of the few listed on the "Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" with 64-Bit checked. Install all drivers from CD first then install card. I live in the city and get about 11 wireless networks on a good day and can surf the web at speeds up to 5.1 Megabits per second (downloads about 1 meg every four seconds). The search for a great Windows XP-64 bit compatible X64 wireless card is over. Get the DWL-G550.

5 out of 5 stars No dropped connections.......2007-05-25

You pay more, but you also get a better connection. I threw away my cheap Linksys USB wireless adapter, which always would drop the connection, and bought this gem. No more drop connections.

4 out of 5 stars Tech support problems.......2007-03-27

The Vista driver on the web site is the same as the driver on the CD, which is not yet Microsoft approved.

The D-Link utility that is loaded does not work (can not see the card).

Between the poor english, the overloaded IP phone connection that drops large chunks of the conversation, and the lack of knowledge, tech support turned a 5 minute question into a 4 hour trial.

Once running, the card works very well, even better than the Hawking 8db antenna.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-03-24

Was easy to install and get working fast. Took maybe 10 minutes to get up and running. Works great and has allowed me to move my computer to the other side of the house without a reduction on signal. Awesome....

5 out of 5 stars Excellent card........2006-02-26

I had to find a card, that would provide a strong enough signal, to solidify my connection, at a location on the fringe of a service area, and just outside of the range of standard cards. The DWL-G550 came with an external antenna and ~10' of cable. The connector on the back of the card is a standard SMA connector that allows you to use the Hawking high gain antenna for extended range. I have used the 15dBi, 14dBi, and the 9dBi antennae with this card and have had great success with them. I discovered that the antenna that D-Link supplied with this card works well with a clear line of sight for extended distances and does well in areas where there is an obstructed line of sight. I have since purchased 5 more of these cards and will use the D-Link DWL-G550 whenever I have to go wireless with a desktop. The drivers and software are excellent, providing a clear, easy-to-use interface. It even works with NetStumbler, which makes monitoring WiFi conditions a breeze.
