Product Description

For a truly simple way to bring the Internet to any room in your home, look no further than NETGEAR's Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridge. It plugs into an electrical outlet and uses your existing electrical wiring to give your entire household access to your Cable/DSL connection. With no expensive new wiring or cabling to install, your family can surf the Web, participate in online gaming, send and receive e-mail, and share files and printers, all from different rooms at the same time. Uncomplicated and very quick to install, it plugs right into a wall outlet, reducing clutter and saving valuable desk space. Designed for ease of use, it has new, easy-to-read icon LEDs, and protects your network communications from eavesdroppers and hackers, while not increasing your electricity bill.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars OK, I guess.......2007-03-03

It works fine. BUT you must have 2 to make it work. Rookie mistake.

I sold mine and got the Buffalo wireless. It is much better.

5 out of 5 stars Nice alternative to wireless.......2007-01-15

We tried wireless when we needed to extend our home network to other floors, with very mixed results: wide fluctuations in measured throughput, sometimes losing connectivity all together. Since we were connecting relatively fixed locations, I decided to give the HomePlug Ethernet-over-power-wiring technology a try.

The Netgear device looks like a slightly oversized plug-in transformer. You plug it into a wall outlet and connect the device to your computer (or other Ethernet-equipped device like a router) with a standard RJ-45 cable. There's an alternate model that connects using USB. If your network uses all Netgear devices, that's the complete installation -- you don't need the management software. Installation of the Windows management software was straightforward. We also have another vendor's HomePlug device in the network now, and have had no problems with interoperability. We did have to change the encryption key on the other vendor's device to match the Netgear default. The performance has been much more consistent than our wireless experience: never a loss of connectivity, and measured throughput has always been in the range of 10 Mbps to 14 Mbps.

You won't get the full "wander about" mobility that a laptop user might want. You need a pair of devices to get started. But if you have problems using wireless in your home network, this is a nice alternative.

4 out of 5 stars Good alternative to WiFi.......2007-01-13

I use this in a place where I can't run an ethernet cable and have a weak WiFi signal because of multiple walls between my router and PC. Installation of the Powerline Ethernet Adapter was a snap - just plug one into the router and a plug, and the other (which you have to buy separately - so you need 2) into a plug and your PC ethernet port, and you are good to go. Couldn't have been easier. Maximum throughput in my home (built ~1985) was about 300 kbps.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great alternative and/ or supplement to wireless.......2007-01-10

This is the fourth adapter I've bought, and I've had no problems whatsoever. Apart from the the entry point adapter attached to the router, I have one connected to my TiVo, one connected to my home PC upstairs, and now I have a spare for the kitchen.

I could never get a good connection to my wireless network to either the TiVo or the upstairs rooms, this product has fulfilled my needs beautifully. As a bonus, I have been able to connect my wireless access point to these adapters.

4 out of 5 stars Great Tech, but get the 104 instead.......2007-01-09

I bought this first and then returned it in order to get the 104 model with a bit rate of 84 or 85 Mbps and the benefit of 4 ethernet ports. I now have 3 of the 104's running and they set up easily and work flawlessly with my Mac network. A great product to move the internet access around the house with. You can also use them to run several WAP's in the house at different locations if your house is too big for just one. I give the 104 5 stars!
