Product Description

This newly redesigned Linksys 8-Port 10/100 Switch can significantly increase your network traffic's speed. A switch serves the same function as a hub in a network design - tying your network equipment together. But unlike a simple-minded hub which divides the network's bandwidth among all the attached devices, a switch delivers full network speeds at each port. Installing this cost-effective 8-Port 10/100 Switch can potentially increase your network speed by eight times! It's the perfect way of integrating 10Mbps Ethernet and 100Mbps Fast Ethernet devices, too. All eight ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently negotiates for best speed and half- or full-duplex mode, for up to 200Mbps of bandwidth per port. Fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network. The new ultra-compact case design is sure to fit into your workgroup environment. Let the Linksys 8-Port 10/100 Switch kick your 10/100 network into high gear.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Nice switch, bad longevity.......2007-06-12

I had two of these fail in the last week. Both are about a year old. The first one has a couple of ports that stopped working, and the second completely died overnight. They're plugged into UPS's, so power surges didn't cause the problem. I'm really dissapointed!

5 out of 5 stars Reliable Basic Switch.......2007-05-09

I have deployed several of these switches in a large environment. This series of switch has proven reliable everywhere we have deployed them. For a small, unmanaged switch it seems to be the best choice available. Crossover detect is becoming a more common feature, and is a real time saver. I have also seen this switch overcome cabling deficiencies where other "mini-switchs" have failed.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing.......2004-07-19

After years of using a 10/100 hub I decided to "upgrade" to a switch. Expecting a good product from Linksys, especially since they were acquired by Cisco, I purchased the SD208 8-port 10/100 switch. I put it on my network and the problems began. Any time I would attempt to transfer large volumes (1GB+) of data between two of my PC's the switch would freeze up on me and I'd have to unplug it and plug it back in to regain network connectivity.

I've put old reliable hub back in place and I'm returning the Linksys back to Amazon. I think I'll give D-Link a try.
