<small><b>Get total wireless freedom with the Skype handset. View larger.</b></small></td></tr> </table> Dual-Mode capability lets you choose whether to make calls over a standard telephone line or with Skype. Just select who you want to talk to from your contact list on your handset and get ready to talk.

Of course, the handset supports SkypeOut dialing as well as your Skype contact list display. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn or standard telephone call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. The handset also supports call waiting and Skype's optional voicemail service. When you're on a call, you can hit the mute button for privacy, or use the speakerphone function to let everyone join in. Other features include polyphonic MIDI ringer melodies on the handset and voice encryption for maximum security. You'll also enjoy 120 hours of standby time and six hours talk time on the handset's rechargeable battery.

The Linksys CIT400 also allows you to choose to make calls to other Skype users or over your existing standard telephone line. You'll get the convenience of a cordless phone and all its features, plus the high-quality voice reception integrated right into your Skype handset--no computer is required.

<b>Long Range, Clear Sound, and Minimal Interference</b>
Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) technology enables long range, great security, and incredible call clarity. Operating at 1900MHz, the CIT400 uses a different wavelength than the crowded 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequencies used by most cordless phones. So it won't interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi.

<b>Easy Setup</b>
The included Quick Start Guide walks you through the easy steps to setup your new dual-mode phone. Skype is already installed on the base station. Plug in the cables and sign into your account.

<b>What is Skype?</b>
Skype is a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to your friends all over the world. With an Internet connection and Skype in use at both ends, you can call anyone, anywhere in the world, for free! And with the optional SkypeOut service, you can make low cost calls to traditional landline or mobile phones worldwide at local rates.

The CIT400 has Skype software embedded in its cordless base station. Plug the integrated Ethernet port into your home network and use Skype without needing to ever turn on your computer.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Simple, good interface, works well.......2007-06-12

Sometimes I need a phone around the house for really long phone calls or for calls where holding a cell phone to my ear is annoying...AND I dont want to have to sit at my computer to do it! I used to have the belkin(same as SMC and netgear) wifi skype phone which was slow, crappy interface and bad call quality. The linksys skype phone is awesome. The interface is clean and responds quickly. The call quality the same as my cell phone and the phone is easy to dial and hold to your ear. Your skype(and skypeout/non-skype) contacts are synchronized to this phone automatically. Probably the greatest feature is the 911 feature. Even though I don't pay for a landline, it still works to dial 911. So I connected the linksys base station to the landline for that purpose only. You can give the skype phone a priority for skype calls but if you dial 911, it automatically uses the landline. For $30/year I get unlimited minutes to anyone in the US or canada and safe 911 calling to my local 911 call center where they know my address. The only annoyances I have: 1. If you press the green "talk" button before you dial it does nothing even though it lets dial the number. Make sure you dial the number and then press "talk". 2. I updated my contacts on the skype computer client software and waited a couple minutes and didn't see them on the linksys phone. I even turn the phone on and off and it still had the old contacts. The thing that did it was to unplug/plugin the base station from the power. I'm sure the phone would have updated soon but I wanted it right away.

5 out of 5 stars Best Skype Phone Choice.......2007-06-03

I did a lot of research before buying this phone, and I'm not dissapointed. The little device excels!!
I considered WiFi options from all vendors (SMC, Belkin, Linksys, etc.) but all the reviews point to a common weakness: poor call reception and even worse battery life. Since all of us are used to long conversations and the clarity that common landline phones offer, I discarded this option.

Then I evaluated the other option, a Dual mode phone. Dual mode phone is convenient, because you get all the landline functionality, plus you can make and receive skype calls. In this league, there were only 3 true contenders: the Linksys CIT400, the Philips VOIP841 and the Netgear SPH200D. These phones all have similar specs, and are the only ones that appear officially at the skype website. They all manage both the landline and skype calls, have good battery life, and excellent reception, due to DECT support. The obvious choice then was the cheaper one.

The CIT400 beats every odd. It's cheap, elegant, easy to setup, has nice features that come in handy (like speakerphone), battery life is unbeatable (just finished a skype call that lasted 5hrs and the battery was not even at full charge), and there is little to nonexistant noise or echo. Reception for both landline and skype is very good.

It's a no brainer. This is the phone to pick up and buy if you are into skype. At least until they come up with a decent 2.0 WiFi versions, so you can get rid of the base station too. Until then, this is the best and logical choice.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT Product.......2007-06-01

I have been using the CIT400 for a about a month now and have found it to be fabulous. Set up was easy -- it took no more than 5 minutes (the base unit auto-detects the phone and goes onto the internet The only thing you have to do is log in using your Skype username and phone number). The first time charging of the phone was a bit long, but the talk time is good and recharge time is very quick. I have a large colonial style home. I located the main unit next to my Linksys wireless hub in the central part of the house. From this position, the phone stays in range no matter where I wander in the house. Audio quality is fine and I have gotten good reports from people I talk to.

5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE Phone!!.......2007-05-28

I've had this phone for about a week now and am amazed at the call quality and ease of use.

I was amazed at how easy the installation was. Just plug it into your broadband connection and sign in thru the handset. No software to install!! The included CD only contains the manual. It was up and running in literally less than 5 minutes.

The clarity of calls is amazing. I am using this phone in West Africa to make Skype and SkypeOut calls to the U.S. The call quality is incredible. My VOIP calls overseas are indistinguishable from a standard landline call to my nextdoor neighbor.

I would *HIGHLY* recommend this phone!!!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing. This is the future.......2007-05-26

This phone works great. Installation is a breeze, operation is intuitive, and it packs in tons of features. I can check voice mail, create a message, whatever I need to do. I now save tons of money a year not having to pay for a business phone line, using this instead. Thank you linksys and skype!
