Product Description
The USB to DB9 Serial Adapter from Cables To Go provides the connection between USB and the traditional RS-232 serial port. The adapter is designed for connections to Cellular phone, PDA, digital cameras, modems, or ISDN terminal adapters through your USB port with over 230 kbps data transfer rate. Since the adapter uses no IRQs, it is perfect if you need many serial devices attached to your PC.
Customer Reviews:
burned out my PICs..........2007-05-23
Pros:
- Drivers work, windows recognizes device as a COM port, which was more than I expected
Cons:
- Have to manually install drivers, they say the CD will autorun - that is not the case, it is not even set up to autorun - you have to guess the directory and installation file.
- I was using this to program a PIC microcontroller, never had trouble via regular serial connection, switched to this and it burned out my PIC.
Conclusion:
- for more 'standard' applications this might work, but since it burned out my IC, there is clearly something that is not quite right with it. If you intend on doing anything that might not be mainstream with this, I'd look elsewhere.
Works great for managing my Cisco routers.......2007-05-04
My workstation does not have a serial interface. I was very happy to find this product and it works great for me. You do have to load the drivers as XP does not recognize the device without adding the vendor drivers, but other than that it is great. I have been using it successfully since 2004 and it is 2007 now.
THE WORST PRODUCT TO BUY.......2007-04-19
I bought this product on December 2006 and 'till now, it doesn't work.
I urge all customers to NEVER buy this product from this brand, because, although it's expensive, it's useless. Don't waste your money.
Not for 64-bit.......2007-04-02
No drivers are yet available for this in 64-bit OS environments. It is not useable for now.
Worked fine so far.......2007-03-30
I am using it with a garmin etrex gps to down load from mapsource software. I have not tried it with any other hardware.
