Cannot Recommend this card.......2007-06-06
Before buying this card you should search the Internet for the following: netw4v32
Intel released a set of very bad drivers which is spreading through several different releases and after 4 weeks still not fixed. As an example search the official Dell forums for this error and the card a Dell support technician publicly admits issues. This is problem is not vendor specific.
The card itself is easy to configure and reaches average strength with my Linksys router. It has worked fine for a few months until I installed a recommended driver update and things went downhill from there. Support from Intel is bad and almost non-existent.
Excellent range, reliability, and value........2007-05-21
Hi,
I have a Dell Precision M90 laptop (Its a $3,000 laptop) with high end features. I purchased the Intel Pro/wireless 3945ABG network adapter - Mini-pci Express card, which connects internally. I was surpised to get such excellent wireless reception - 7 networks found, mostly from other houses in my neighborhood. I never get any disconnects, and from my Linksys router, I get excellent reception from anywhere in my apartment. This Intel wireless card is excellent. The only drawback is that the Intel CD which comes with the Intel wireless card has very outdated drivers. I suggest you go to the web and download the latest Intel drivers (instead of using the Intel CD).
Dell e1505.......2007-05-14
I replaced my BCM4311 (Broadcom/Dell 1390)with the Intel 3945 in my Dell e1505. My main motivation was having a more Linux-friendly wireless card (coming from the BCM4311, it can't get much worse). After reinstalling Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn), wireless worked great out of the box...no need to download any drivers. After going to the Dell Support page and getting the Intel drivers, things were working great in Windows too.
I can't really tell any signal differences...both seemed to work fine for me. So far, this has been the best $30 I've spent on my laptop. Fully recommended...especially for the Linux enthusiast.
If you have Vista, beware!!! .......2007-05-12
If you take a look around, (internet search) you'll see there are significant issues with this card & Vista. Intel, from Vista RTM, has failed to provide solid drivers that are stable.
The Ver 10.x drivers intermittently drop the connection forcing a hard reset of the adapter using the notebooks physical switch.
The Ver 11.x drivers are even worse. The only way to recover is to reboot the system.
Just google "intel 3945abg dhcp vista" or similar and you'll see. This is not a Vista problem, or a router problem. It's Intel. I have the same card in Dell & Toshiba notebooks and they all have the exact same issue.
Made for Ubuntu.......2007-04-29
If you are one of the unfortunate ones with a broadcom wireless card, ie the terrible Dell 1390, on your Ubuntu laptop then this is a must have. It's fairly easy to replace the cards, look at the laptop service manual.
Ubuntu recognizes the card instantly. Everything works, including WPA.
