5 out of 5 stars Quick setup, optional psychedelics.......2007-04-22

First, version 2 (v2) has a button to turn off the pschedelic light.
I had used a LinkSys WRT54G for a year or more. As I recall, it took about 2 hours to set up (my first wifi router). It got messed up by a power surge (I apparently need a better surge protector) but I thought I had resuscitated it by upgrading the firmware. I spent a few hours trying to get it set up again. My laptop connected with it but I could not access the net.
So I got this Netgear. Took no more than 30 minutes. The set up was much easier - I just did what the wizard said.
In all fairness, the LinkSys might have been bad after the surge. It might be a snap if you have "secure easy setup" on the laptop. I thought I had it with the installed software, but it didn't work.
One caveat - the "rangemax" feature is only available if you have a "rangemax" adapter on the other end.
This setup was much easier.
Pros: quick and easy setup, quick throughput, adequate range
Con: need a a "rangemax" adaptor to get the range boost

2 out of 5 stars Netgear meets STARWARS... but the force was not with them...........2007-04-13

This is the 1st wireless router which I purchased and I wasnt pleased. I saw a drop in internet speed after installation....and the flickering blue lights were enough to have me banging my head against a wall by the third night. I returned the unit and bought a Linksys instead. Now I'm a happy camper...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent .......2007-04-10

The router works right out of the box with little setup time. I have clear wireless and regular high speed cable now as opposed to constant hassles before with my old equipment. Apparently this product is as good as the manufacturer claims it is.

3 out of 5 stars Netgear 824.......2007-04-07

The router works great but, the support is really bad. Waited 45 mins then got someone who did not speak english well. To tell me that I did not register. Found my email showing that I did called back waited another 30 mins to state that I do not understand when all I asked is how to get the wireless printer setup in the netgear program. They hung up after they stated they did not understand. If you are a computer specialist this would be great but, if you do not know a lot about computers then you can forget about getting help from netgear. You will have to go someone else if you can find anyone to help you. Luckly my son works on computers so he help a lot.
