Drops connection.......2007-06-11

This thing drops connections a little too frequently to be of much use. Sometimes it drops the connections 3-4 times in a day. Earlier it was dropping connections and hanging a bit more frequently. Then I read somewhere that the base of the router gets very hot, which makes it drop connections and become useless. So I now keep it tilted to increase air-flow. That has helped a bit.

Because of this router, I think I am using my neighbors network more often than mine. I think I should ask her what router she has :-)

I need to do my part to bring the rating of this product down. It's horrible. Signal is constantly dropping (about every 20 minutes) and browsing speed is noticeably reduced. Returning this as soon as possible.

This little gem has great coverage. I have previously owned 2 Linksys WRT54G and until I read a review by ZDNet I hadn't considered anything other than a Linksys. I decided to purchase this router because the ZDNet tests showed that this wireless router had better converge then most of its well known peers. They weren't kidding. This router out performed what I was getting on my Linksys by A LOT! I am buying a second one right now for a network I need to setup for a family member.

I had never had a wireless component before purchasing this product so I was a little apprehensive about setting it up. Fortunately, the instructions from the Easy Install CD guided me through setting up the router, even which wires go where. I was happy with the Easy Install there. That was until it got time for it to detect my router. Now, mind you I could already see the laptop sitting next to me had access to wireless network I had just set up so I knew that I had installed everything and set it up properply. Unfortunately the Easy Install still couldn't detect what I already knew was working. This frustrated me. Not to mention that I called customer service and the wait was awful. That was the worst part because all I wanted to do was set up a password for the network and renname the SSID.

Anyway, the alternate setup instructions helped. I went online and configured and was online with a protected wireless network and no time. So far I have had no problems with connection loss or loss of ranger or anything else. I would recommend this, in fact, because the price is so good. I got mine from Staples for 39.99, and I'm glad I didn't spend more. This has been great. I'm just a day in and I love it.
