The D-Link DP-101 is an Ethernet Print Server that attaches directly to a parallel printer. The DP-101 manages the flow of print files from network workstations or servers to its connected printer, freeing file servers and workstations from printing tasks. Great product! The instructions were clear and simple, and I had this item working within 5 minutes of opening the box. I don't know what the deal is with everyone complaining about the setup.

Finally!!! I don't need to leave my desktop computer on to print stuff from other computers on my home network! For everybody's information, I'm running Windows 2000 Professional with a 4 port wireless router.

I don't know what everyones problem is, but if you follow the instructions you can configure this and set up your PCs in about 15 minutes if you just follow the instructions. I followed the instructions and everything went smoothly.

This does use the Centronics port and fits my BJC-1000 perfectly converting the printer port to an ethernet port.

Now I don't have to have my PC on for my wife to be able to print. YAY!

Grrrrr...

The product specs for the DP-101P+ indicate the product supports a "Parallel Port Connection" -- however that connection is on the printer side, not "computer" side. I had ordered this to use with an HP1100 printer. HP has chosen for several printer models to move to a more compact connector type. As a result, this device will not work without some kind of adapter -- which may exist but I'll not take the time to find.

I guess this is not totally D-Link's fault, but I think they could have made it more obvious that this wouldn't work with a large number of popular printers.

Save yourself the return shipping -- if you have an HP printer, check the parallel port on the back of the printer before buying to make sure it's not the compact style.

Not worth the hassle.......2003-08-08

Having recently purchased a DLink wireless router and PC card I thought adding the DLink print server was a no-brainer. I couldn't have been more wrong. One would think that products from the same manufacturer would be easily configurable but not DLink. I spent several hours trying to get the darn thing to work and finally called tech support and waited for 20 minutes to speak to someone. They weren't much help and told me to return it. I put it in the mail the next day. Unless you're a network engineer, I would not recommend this product

This unit works great, once you get some of the minor problems taken care of. The previous statement about the manual (LEAVING A LOT TO BE DESIRED) is a correct statement. The only real problem I had was with the IP address for the D-Link unit. Seems this unit used the same IP address as my Netgear router, but that was easily taken care of by Netgear. Simply changed the IP address for the Netgear router from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.100 . The D-Link unit uses 192.168.0.1 and D-Link doesn't have a real service support to speak of,without you being required to make a long distance call to California and after making contact (waiting and waiting). But overall, it's great and an inexpensive was to convert a normal printer to a network printer
