Customer Reviews:
Will do Jumbo frames BUT..........2007-05-26
According to the Netgear site, for jumbo frames to work, you need to have a serial number starting with 1DR or 127x5B or 127x5C. I would suggest you get the latest firmware also.
The switch will need to be configured correctly before jumbo frames are supported. You must also have an ethernet adapter capable and configured to support jumbo frames.
For the price it's a good deal; especially if you do backups from PC to PC, or PC to NAS.
Decent Price for a decent product.......2007-05-12
I bought this about a month ago to work with my wired and wireless network at home. The network consists of the Netgear gigabit switch, an Apple MA073LL/A AirPort Extreme Base Station and a LaCie 500 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, Design by F.A. Porsche (301103U) drive. They all work quite well together with both Macs and PCs. Of all the equipment, the Netgear switch was by far the easiest to setup and use. I had been using an old NetGear router that was constantly dropping my internet connection. Now I surf along at a great speed and without interuption. The switch has colored lights to tell you if you have a gigabit connection (green) or a 100MB connection (orange). My only beef is with the connecting stand legs that let you stand it up on its side. They are a bit flimsy. Everything else is easy to understand and use and I see no issues with speed. All in all, this is a great switch and perfect for home network use.
Plug and PLay.......2007-03-09
I wired the house with Cat5e. The color coded feature is really great, the numbers light up to let you know if you're connected at GigE or 10/100bT. It was plug and play. Amazon really had a good price after a lot of internet shopping for this.
Great looks and speed.......2007-02-15
This thing is the first piece of networking equipment I have ever owned that acutally looked good enough to be on a shelf in plain sight. Vertical stand is convenient for saving space, and the mirror finish goes all the way around the front and sides. Easy, plug and play installation, with easy to follow instructions included just in case. Gigabit speed is great on compatible devices.
Great little box, but a few nits.......2007-01-24
This is a great little router and is awesome for the price, but seems to have an issue where some NICs that initially connect at 1000 Mbps will drop to 100 Mbps for no reason. Plugging the NIC in question into any other port on the switch will allow the NIC to connect at 1000 Mbps, but plugging it back into its old port will cause it to reconnect at 100 Mbps. This behavior continues until you power cycle the switch, at which point the NIC connects at 1000 Mbps again.
Don't misunderstand, this isn't a big deal, just a bit of an annoyance - when you notice a port that's supposed to be green has gone yellow, it means it's time to power cycle the switch. I've had to do this, on average, about once every two months or so.
