Product Description
Linksys WAP55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point - Setting up a wireless network can become a lesson in frustration. Which protocol do you choose? 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11a? Well this access point from Linksys eases your suffering by supporting all 3. You can achieve transfer speeds up to 54Mbps when using 802.11g and 802.11a - and since "g" uses the 2.4GHz band, and "a" uses the 5GHz band, you can run both of them at the same time without a speed loss!
Customer Reviews:
Great Way to Add Wireless Support to an Existing Wired Network.......2006-12-08
Pros: Provides 802.11a in addition to 802.11g/b, wireless standards can be separately enabled/disabled, good range, nice complement to an existing Linksys cable/dsl broadband router, 802.11a (and WPA security) works great with a MacBook Pro.
Cons: None
I bought this access point to add wireless networking to my existing setup (I also own a Linksys 4-port broadband router). I also wanted 802.11a, since it is rarely used by consumers (so less chance of competition on the airwaves) and is not affected by microwave ovens and such.
Well this access point works great with my MacBook Pro, utilizing 802.11a w/WPA security. Highly recommended!!!
p.s. While I could have gotten a combined router/access point for a similar price, I did not want/need both. Plus, being a security-conscious guy, it is nice to be able to pull the plug on the access point without affecting the wired network. And finally, being separate, you can grab the access point and take it with you without unwiring the rest of your network.
Can't understand the problems others are having.......2006-10-06
This is my second one of this model, I burned up the first myself when we moved and I accidentially plugged the wrong transformer into it (too much voltage = smoke). I found it easy to configure, set up WEP keys, MAC locked everything using the web-based interface. It worked great with our LinkSys Media extender - we watch recorded tv from our Media Center pc on our plasma screen tv three rooms away using this device. No problems whatsoever. Hasn't slowed down my internet connection either. I am buying another one today to serve the mobile computer lab at work.
Money better spent elsewher.......2006-08-17
Should Depict 1 Star
Sadly, the more products I buy from post Cisco merged Linksys..the more money I lose. Made the mistake of buying this item for a customer whch has consistently started to lockup after the first month of purchase. No upgraded firmware...waste....purchase another product
Horid.......2006-07-07
a horid thing thats incompatable with anything unless you know how to change its subnet which is impossable.
Cut my Internet Speed to 30%.......2006-06-20
I bought this to upgrade my wireless connection to my Xbox 360. The Wireless connectivity was passable (not great) but what ultimately made me return this was after multiple tests I determined that the router had cut my connection speed to a third of its original speed. I tried to trouble-shoot w/ Linksys Tech Support to no avail.
