Product Description

The 3Com Gigabit Switch 8 is designed for small offices and remote branch offices requiring high network performance to exchange large data files and images, and access real-time information or connect to high-speed servers or a high-speed network backbone. Featuring autosensing and auto MDI/MDIX on all ports, the Gigabit Switch 8 is delivered in a futuristic, compact and streamlined enclosure. The 3Com Gigabit Switch 8 automatically finds the fastest connection speed, the autosensing 10/100/1000 ports automatically adjust to the speed of network devices communicating at 1000, 100, or 10 Mbps, so the switch can accommodate a range of workgroup applications. All that is needed is to connect the power and Ethernet cables. The 3Com Gigabit Switch 8 offers high-speed, high-quality, reliable, affordable networking with a style that will accommodate any office environment.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Hot little switch.......2007-04-29

The 3Com switch runs physically pretty hot, I do not know how much electricity it uses but perhaps quite a bit since it is on 24 hours a day. It has a number of rather large blue lights for each Ethernet line. Unlike many switches, it gives full gigabyte speeds (rather than the more common 100-megabit speed). I don't think there is any way to configure it (no web-browser access, for example), just plug it in and use it. There is no indication if a line is running at gigabit speeds, or is connected to (for example) a slower network adapter and is running at 100-megabits. For some reason, my VPN connection will no longer work when run through this switch.
