Product Description

Connect your appliances into the Kill A Watt, and assess how efficient they are. A large LCD display counts consumption by the Kilowatt-hour just like utility companies. You can figure out your electrical expenses by the hour, day, week, month, even an entire year. Monitor the quality of your power by displaying Voltage, Line Frequency, and Power Factor

5 out of 5 stars Energy Meter.......2007-06-12

This is a very neat item. Looking to find your energy leaks?

Plug your household products into this and see what kind of enery you are wasting. Some phone chargers actually use energy when left plugged in to the wall and not to the phone. Toasters can also be an energy drain when left plugged in.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to..........2007-06-12

This product is just what I was looking for to try to track down where I'm using the most energy in the house. It tracks current pulled, electrical potential, and cumulative kilowatthours (kwh). I usually leave it plugged in to the appliance I'm interested in for at least 48 hours to get an idea of what my average energy usage is.

The only change I would make in the product would be if it could be made with a detachable faceplate that was wired into the unit. That way if it was plugged into an appliance whose outlet was not easily accessible, you could have the faceplate in a convenient spot to read it. Overall, a good quality tool.

5 out of 5 stars What's "International" about it?.......2007-06-08

What's "International" about it? Reading the spec page, appears it only works with 115VAC appliances. Normally "international" means dual voltage...115 and 220.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase.......2007-06-08

I bought the Kill-a -watt hoping to tell me if some of my older appliances were responsable for my high electric bill and was very happy to find out that a recent aquisition of a comercial refrigerator was responsable for 1/3 of my bill. So the Kill-a-watt paid for it's self in it's first use.

4 out of 5 stars Nice but..........2007-06-08

I like this, its simple and in expensive.
Few gripes. I wish it had a battery in it to save the numbers. This is somtimes awkward to plug in behind items like fridges and if you unplug and didn't read the #'s you lose them. So something that just saved the #'s for say 2-3 min after you unplug would be REALLY handy.

BTW, in case anyone cares. Don't believe the US Gov "avg electricity cost in US is 10¢ per KWH. in NYC when you factor in the mandatory usage (which is higher than the rest) and the 4% tax the kwh cost in NYC is like 19-22¢ a KWH. And NYC doesnt offer lower rates at night. Its same rate 24/7. So this device can pay for itself quickly if you find a energy hog in your house.
