Product Description
Get the blazing speed of Gigabit Ethernet with the D-Link GigaExpress DGS-1008D, an 8-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. Increase the speed of your network server and backbone connections, or make Gigabit to the desktop a reality. Power users in the home, office, workgroup, or creative production environment can now move large, bandwidth-intensive files faster. Transfer graphics, CGI, CAD, or multimedia files across the network instantly. It features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8,000 MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks. Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission. Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-1008D 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds.
Customer Reviews:
Drops Connection.......2007-05-28
I bought 2 of these and while they worked as I expected a switch should work for the first couple of months I started noticing that my machines were displaying network connection / reconnection messages all the time. I assumed it was the network card which I then replaced but after getting the same connect/reconnect message all the time I bought a Netgear gigabit switch and now have no problems at all. This was the first time I bought D-Link so it's hard to say there is a pattern here but the switch is obviously of low quality and after reading other feedback I would say this is a fairly common problem with these switches. Suggest you DO NOT BUY a D-LINK Switch.
Switch resets, drops connection when printer cycles.......2006-09-03
I suffered from the same problem with this switch that others here have reported. I returned it to D-Link for a replacement, because they had NO RECORD of any customers having such a problem and NO IDEA what could cause it. When the replacement device arrived, I experienced the same problem--whenever I sent something to my network printer, the switch would reset, dropping all connections. I believe I've isolated this as a power spike issue. Each time I experienced this problem, it's because my laser printer is coming out of sleep mode. Note that my switch is NOT plugged into the same power strip as my printer. In fact, I have my switch plugged into a surge/UPS block. One other point worth noting that I think speaks poorly of D-Link. Though they sent me the replacement product, I was charged TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS when I hadn't included the original "mounting kit" in the return package. The mounting kit consists of two screws and two plastic wall anchors. TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS! Unbelievable.
Cheezy unit - do not buy!.......2006-08-19
Switch periodically resets and drops connections. RMA'd first unit, and new unit does the same thing. No way to determine why it resets - extremely frustrating. D-Link Tech-support is no help and claims no knowledge of this apparently common problem --- no wonder they discontinued this product.
drops connection.......2006-08-14
Bought one for the office on December 05. It does not work. Well, it does, but it goes on and off , dropping the conecction very offen. Users are complaining about the extra time it takes them to finish their job on the network. So I will have to buy another brand , as suggested by our IT advisor. I lost my money on this one.
Drops connections DO NOT BUY.......2006-08-03
I purchased two of these to be used in a clustered environment which means I can't have loss of connectivity. Both switches, after a few weeks, started to reset themselves. I replaced cables and still had the same problem. I RMA'd both and the replacements are the same. DO NOT BUY THEM you will be sorry if you do.
