Installation of the Network Attached Storage is simple - just plug it directly into your 10/100 network, and it's instantly available. Or connect it to a Gigabit network! It can serve as your network's DHCP server, and also has a built-in Print Server so you can add a network printer without burdening a PC with spooling chores. The Network Attached Storage features built-in disk utilities, accessible through your web browser. You can run a self test, and scan or defrag the disk(s). not as good and a bit confusing.......2005-09-29

I had a previous linksys network storage system and that I just plugged in and it worked. This one has several problems. firstly it won't work well if you install the hard drive in the #2 slot, which is unlabeled and happens to be on the top. Second, buying a second hard drive for the device is complicated as the device only takes certain types of hard drives. I had to e-mail linksys for the info. I also find that sometimes the drive locks up and can't be connected to without a reboot of the system. Hopefully the next version will correct these basic flaws.

Unreliable.......2005-06-15

This review refers to EFG250 version 2, firmware version 2.5r18. The firmware has a bug so that a share cannot be created on DISK 2 using the Administration-Shares interface: the bug causes the software to ignore the location field; if DISK 2 is selected, the share will still be created on DISK 1. NOTE: a kludgey work around to this problem is to create a new user with the same name as the share, then creating a private folder on DISK 2, then change the group and user permission on the private folder. Delete the user after this is done. This was the first problem that was encountered. A few months later, the unit couldn't be access through the web interface. A forced shutdown was executed by pressing and holding the on/off button. After the unit was rebooted, the system reported that DISK 1 was not formatted. All data on DISK 1 was lost!
