Amazon.com Product Description

Netgear's PS-110 print server lets you share printers among all users on the network without complex configurations or having to dedicate a PC for printer serving. It connects directly to the network and can be placed anywhere for convenient access. With its built-in network hub, the Netgear PS110 provides connectivity solutions and file, print, and resource sharing. It can also connect two parallel printers, such as a color printer with a high-speed laser printer.

The Netgear PS110 attaches to a 10 or 100 Mbps hub or switch, providing seamless transition from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet. It has one speed-sensing 10/100 Mbps printer port and a pair of IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel network ports. The extensive LED screen highlights all links and activities. The unit also provides simultaneous support for Unix, Windows, and NetWare clients. TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and NetBEUI network protocols are supported as well.

FirstGear, a Windows-based configuration tool, enables simple installation. Flash EPROM lets you download upgrades as they become available.<P>Netgear offers a five-year warranty on the print server, while the power adapter is covered for a year.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best print server available.......2004-07-12

I have tried numerous other print servers including HP JetDirect and the Linksys network print servers. My experience with NetGear has been the best.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product! No Problems!.......2004-02-28

I purchased this product about 1 month ago and abused the heck out of it. Print from detailed photo's to charts and displays to photosmart 1218 and a hp color lazer print. I don't have any back logs or transfer problems. Great product and highly recommended!

1 out of 5 stars Highly frustrating little blue box........2004-01-31

Let me get this off my chest first: I like Netgear products a lot. I also see that other reviewers seem to like this printserver, so take their experiences into consideration as well.

I have experienced many irritating problems with this printserver since buying it. Printing complex PDF files to my laser printer is a lost cause- three or four pages will print and then I'll get an error. After this happens the print server locks up and needs a reboot (often my computer also needs a reboot to print again- I think there might be a problem with their printer driver as well). I've called tech support and tried replacement units to no avail. I am inspired to write this review because of a problem I'm currently having- I just tried printing a simple document from WordPad and the printer driver insists there is another job waiting on the printer (there isn't).
My overall recommendation is to buy Netgear products but avoid this printserver.

3 out of 5 stars Does not work with multi-function printers.......2003-12-12

I purchased this printer server early this year, and returned
it after found out that the server does not support
multi-function printers (such as printer/copier.) Other than
that the server works fine and the installation is easy and
staightforward as well. I am wondering if Netgear has found
a way to fix the problem (limitation.)

4 out of 5 stars Very good, but still has some minor problems........2003-09-12

I bought a new Canon i850 and wanted to use a printserver for it. I originally bought the expensive Linksys PPSX1v2 print server but the performance was slow, no bi-directional support, and no linux support. I returned it and bought the Netgear PS110. What a big difference! Its great! Great performance and I can print with my linux box too!

I found two problems. 1) Doesn't support the bi-directional functionality of the Canon i850. 2) When I first received the PS110, it was set to DHCP disabled. So nothing could connect to it. I found out that in order to MANUALLY set the IP, you have to connect the printserver directly to your NIC with a crossover cable, then set the ip using the "IPSetup" tool.
