The NetVanta 3000 Series is a line of modular access routers designed for cost-effective branch office connectivity over frame relay or point-to-point networks and Internet access. These modular platforms offer a turnkey solution for access routing and WAN connectivity in a single, compact package. The NetVanta 3000 Series currently offers several models, with a variety of interchangeable Network Interface Modules (NIMs) and Dial Backup Modules (DIMs). All NIMs and DIMs are field upgradable and can be configured remotely, thus eliminating the need for additional on-site technical expertise.For added security, the NetVanta 3000 Series also provides a powerful, high-performance stateful inspection firewall. It will examine all incoming and outgoing packets against the security policies established by the IT Manager. In addition, the firewall can identify and protect against common Denial of Service (DoS) attempts like TCP syn flooding, IP spoofing, ICMP redirect, LAN attacks, ping-of-death, and IP reassembly problems. The NetVanta 3000 Series also includes built-in alert and logging mechanisms for notifying network administrators about suspicious activities that are going on in the network. As another layer of security, the NetVanta 3000 Series also offers IP address concealment and conservation by performing Network Address Translation (NAT). This is an access router; not a cable / dsl gateway router. If your service terminates with a smart jack you probably need an access router. These are technically more sophisticated in use and application. This is not an install for a technical lightweight. If you are very comfortable with and understand how to install gateway routers, are technical and analytical in nature, comfortable with technical troubleshooting, and need to address a more sophisticated application you will find Adtran's product and technical support (before and after purchase) most appropriate. I know of no other product maker in this field that will support you as well as Adtran. I strongly caution you that this is not for the novice as this is much more sophisticated than a gateway router install.

Depending upon the service you bought and your intention, the specific interfaces (network interface modules, NIMs)in the unit and the configuration you can connect point to internet, point to point, and subdivide a point to point for voice and data. As you probably can conclude, this is not a lightweight application.

You will find the Adtran unit very dependable and suitable for your need - and if you are unsure, Adtran's customer support both before and after the sale cannot be beat.

This does not have a web base configuration - and has to be done in command line language. There is a configuration tool that enables you to configure wihtout the command language. If you run into a snag, you may well have to use command language. Don't let this scare you off; it is very logical and Adtran people will be most helpful.
