Horrible.......2007-06-09
Stay away from this mess. I too have a child who likes to use my expensive digital camera so I figured I'd buy one for her very own. I was sold on the Disney name and the great packaging (which makes this camera actually look descent).
My daughter was so excited when I gave it to her. But then, she used it... and promptly put it down after just a couple of minutes.
Like other reviewers have said, you can't make out anything with the tiny LCD (which is extremely grainy). Using the flash just washes out anything you're shooting.
You do not need the included software to get the pictures off of it (it mounts like a hard drive). It's only a whopping 16MB so forget the idea of re-purposing this for some sort of USB key. ;-) When you do see the pictures you took, they look like they were taken by a cellphone camera... a really really bad cellphone camera. On top of that, if you take any pictures while moving even just a tiny bit, they're blurry.
The fun in using a digital camera for a kid is to see what they're taking pictures of on the LCD. If that experience is horrible, then what's the use?
For fifty bucks I really do expect more than this. Shame on you Disney for branding this junk. Shame on me for buying this POS.
Extremely disappointing !! Worthless........2006-12-29
My kids are always stealing my expensive Canon digital camera, so I bought 2 of these Disney cameras for them. They like to photograph silly things like their feet, their toys, and their lunch. This Disney camera is not even applicable to such silly-fun photography. I was fair warned that the pictures would be grainy when downloaded (only 1 megapixel), but I hoped that the act of photographing stuff would be a fun activity for the kids. No so. The LCD screen on the back of the camera is completely useless, as you can barely even make out objects within 1-2 feet away. When preparing to take a picture, you must hold the camera very still and about 12 inches from the subject. When using such a technique, you will be able to make out the outline of the object, at best. After the kids gave the cameras a try and discovered that the LCD images were impossible to decipher, the cameras were left in the bottom of the toy box. Do not waste money on this camera.

As I write this review, I'm lamenting the fact that [...]. We just got back from a Disney trip, and I wanted my daughter to have the princess model of this camera for the trip, to capture her own memories. As long as she doesn't mind her memories to be completely washed out and white, or grainy and out of focus, it'll all work out fine.
Anything close in is washed out by the flash, and anything at a reasonable distance is grainy and most likely not in focus. My 7 year old daughter is still learning how to take photos, keeping the camera still and such, but the complete lack of quality in the resulting photos is laughable.
The LCD is tiny and VERY dark and grainy. The camera is lightweight (good for small hands), but it feels flimsy. The buttons are a bit too clicky...not smooth. The picture quality is pretty bad...not sure what size prints they can generate.
I probably could have bought a decent 3-4 megapixel camera (used?) for the price I paid for this thing...what is this thing?...0.25 megapixels?
Shame on me for wanting this so badly that I paid through the nose for it. I still love Disney, but I will definitely be more wary of their retail products from now on.
If you pay more than $40, you'll be disappointed!.......2006-12-10
I love Digital Blue's Disney photo editing software. That alone is worth the $20-$40 you'll pay for this type of camera but I wouldn't pay more than that! I have the Disney Pix Max (with flash) and the pictures are extremely grainy. The flash is like an old 35mm flash ~ very bright! TOO bright. Great for taking pictures at least 6 feet away but any closer than that and your picture will come out almost white.
The Disney Pix software that comes with these cameras is so much fun, though! I've attached an example photo in the product description.
